Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the survivors of residential schools and their families and communities. Chinook PCN recognizes the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools and the impact these schools have had to Indigenous communities for generations. We invite all members of our community to not only to wear an orange shirt but to also use this day to learn and reflect on Canada’s history with Indigenous peoples.

If you or someone you know is struggling or needs someone to talk to, talk to your family doctor. Or call the Mental Health Helpline 1-877-303-2642 or the National Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line 1-866-925-4419. The helplines are confidential, anonymous and available 24/7.

Your family physicians and pharmacists have been educating themselves on the #COVID19Vaccine, and because they also know your history, family and circumstances, they can make recommendations that are right for you. Very few may be vulnerable to complications, but without vaccine protection, we know that even healthy Albertans are at risk of severe illness and death from this virus. If you have questions or are feeling unsure about getting vaccinated, your trusted pharmacists and family physicians are here to discuss your concerns. We are committed to making you comfortable with getting your COVID-19 vaccine.

Remember that immunization is safe and makes your immune system stronger by building antibodies to help prevent disease. Vaccines are the single most effective means of protecting yourself, your loved ones and the greater community from #COVID19.

We (the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association, Alberta College of Family Physicians, Alberta Primary Care Networks and the Alberta Medical Association) are here to help you get past the pandemic. You can help, too, by getting vaccinated.

The COVID-19 vaccination is available at participating family physician offices or #PrimaryCare Networks, participating pharmacies or an #ABHealth Services vaccination site: https://www.alberta.ca/covid19-vaccine.aspx

Today is World No Tobacco Day

On World No Tobacco Day, Alberta Blue Cross continues to stand with the Campaign For a Smoke-Free Alberta to continue to address tobacco use—which remains the leading cause of preventable death and illness in Alberta and across Canada, with more than 4,100 Albertans dying annually due to tobacco-related causes. And with smoking taking on a new look under the guise of vaping, we applaud the Government of Alberta with moving forward on reforms to tobacco and vaping legislation—and we call for expanded regulations to ban the sale of flavoured vapes, which are known to entice children and youth. https://protectalbertakids.ca/

World Health Day 2021

Today is #WorldHealthDay and this year’s theme is Building a fairer, healthier world.

Access to physicians and other healthcare workers is the starting point for health equity. Studies show that primary care improves health outcomes for everyone.

In Alberta, Primary Care Networks work with physicians to remove barriers and provide high-quality care to all patients. We are proud to support physicians in caring for patients of all backgrounds and across all walks of life.
