Here. It happened here. On this land. In this place of pluralism and unbounded opportunity. Our nation did this. To children. To their families.

The remains of 215 children have been found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

At this time, we feel deep sadness and anger, but we must also act. It is long past time for action.

The flags on all City of Calgary buildings are being lowered as a symbol of mourning but that's not enough.

All governments must commit to the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, not just with words but real action. That means holding true to our commitment to teach this history in every grade so all Canadian children know and commit to a better future.

It means no more dithering. It means clean drinking water and equitable services on every First Nation, starting today. It means access to economic prosperity for all Indigenous peoples.

And it means every one of us taking action. Read the report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and commit yourself to the actions in it. (https://t.co/Kpqaqbf3sn?amp=1)

Educate yourself. Dig into the materials at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. (https://t.co/i19Tuux7KR?amp=1)

The City of Calgary has committed to meaningful actions. I encourage you to read the White Goose Flying Report. (https://t.co/eJST2uj6BN?amp=1)

Take a free course, like this one offered by the University of Alberta. (https://t.co/FPM5gBDV7T?amp=1)

Teach your kids. Some good resources here from First Nations Child & Family Caring Society. (https://t.co/CHNGgnP03A?amp=1)

Here are some more resources. (https://t.co/OBd9yfCRod?amp=1)

Donate to residential school survivors in British Columbia. (https://t.co/hhBKxhCPHU?amp=1)

Support the excellent work of Dr. Cindy Blackstock and team. (https://t.co/I7ldhl5X5I?amp=1)

Support a local or national organization doing good work with survivors in your community, like Awo Taan. (https://t.co/PajoIUdvbi?amp=1)

Support the Aboriginal Friendship Society of Calgary. (https://t.co/5TYZ1G6ZAU?amp=1) And so many others doing good work.

And be loud. Yes, it was politicians who made these decisions and your representatives need to hear from you now. A good place to start is to tell the Government of Alberta that its proposed curriculum must be changed. (https://t.co/XbxJMLiwz2?amp=1)

We must all commit to being uncomfortable and calling out racism wherever we see it, in all its forms, particularly against Indigenous peoples. The time for excuses, rationalization and minimizing the harm is long past.

This includes accountability for all of the organizations who were essential to implementing the government’s policies. They must answer, sincerely and justly, for the harm that was inflicted upon Indigenous peoples by their hand.

The Government of Canada set up a National Indian Residential School Crisis Line to provide support to former residential school students and those affected. Access emotional and crisis referral services by calling the 24-Hour National Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.

The greatest honours I have ever received were the names given to me by my Blackfoot and Tsuut'ina families: A’paistootsiipsii and Iitiya. I must be "Always Ready" to "Move camp and the others follow." That is my commitment.

Collectively, I hope that we take this moment of shock and of grief, and use it to ignite action across this nation, for all of us. All our relations. Truth. Reconciliation. Action.

This year, Pink Shirt Day, or Anti-Bullying Day, is on February 24.

Together, we are joining hands to raise awareness of bullying prevention and highlight where to turn if in need of help. Getting involved is easy, and here are a few ideas on how you can take part in Pink Shirt Day:
• Proudly wear your pink shirts to show that you stand up against bullying!
• If you see someone being bullied or you're being bullied, talk to a trusted person about it.
• When someone is being bullied, in person or online, stand up for them so that they know that they don't deserve to be bullied.
• Don't encourage bullying by participating in bullying behavior

Although wearing a pink shirt on Pink Shirt Day is a great way to show you are against bullying, it’s important that we all stand up against any kind of bullying every day, all year long!
Being bullied at work? Talk to your supervisor, coordinator, HR or call the office line 403.320.8887.
Be Kind!

With everyone getting fancy with their own cleaning solutions, we thought this would be a good one to share.
Please be careful when mixing products and make sure to steer clear of these combos! They can be deadly.

Also in the interest of transparency, we did *acquire* this image from the Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department. Thank you 😁
