Mental health, fitness, or life direction—we do real work that gets results. Reach out and start today. Working with First Responders and Emergency Services isn’t just a privilege — it’s a priority. I bring my personal and professional experience to this work — as a firefighter, myself, and a firefighter’s wife. This community matters to me. It has been there for us - now it's my turn. Not everyone understands the culture, the weight, or the pride that comes with the job — but I do. And I’m here to offer a resource that’s real, relatable, and free from judgment. There’s a huge need for support in the First Responder world, but too often it’s overlooked. You’re the ones taking care of everyone else — and it’s easy to forget that you need care too. When you don’t need clinical therapy, but you need something more than small talk with friends — that’s where I come in. I offer complimentary consultations — no pressure, just a real conversation. 😮I need a fu***ng reboot.🧘‍♀️

🔥Blog Link at the bottom!

Not a “new me.”
Not a 30-day challenge.
Not some inspirational bu****it where I pretend I’m suddenly going to have my entire life figured out.

I just need to get back to basics.

I love my job. I throw myself headfirst into the things I care about—my students, coworkers, the fire service, and the people who need someone in their corner.

But somewhere along the way, going above and beyond turned into running myself into the ground.

And I know better.

In emergency services, our priorities are simple:

🔥You...
🔥Your team...
🔥Your patient...
Because if the rescuer goes down, they’re no good to anybody.

Funny how easily I forget that in my own life.

I know what it feels like to feel completely fu***ng alone. Like nobody has your back and nobody is coming.

That feeling lives deep in me.

So I became someone who shows up. Who checks in. Who helps. Who tries like hell to make sure other people don’t feel that way.

I don’t want to lose that part of myself.

But I cannot keep abandoning myself to prove that I care about everyone else.

So… reboot.

My food has gone to s**t. Real food. Meal prep. Less takeout. Stop eating garbage late at night because I forgot to eat all day.

Fitness? I’m injured, and instead of adapting, I’ve mostly been pi**ed off that I can’t train the way I want to.

For years my motto has basically been “No excuses. Work harder.”

Turns out sometimes working harder means being smart enough to change tactics.

My health needs attention too. I take medication. I need it. I’m not ashamed of that.

But I need to take it consistently.

I wouldn’t walk into a fire and say, “Meh, I wore my PPE yesterday.”

Same fu***ng principle.

So I’m going back to fundamentals.

Eat better.
Move. Heal.
Take my meds.
Sleep.
Set boundaries.
Protect my marriage, health and life.
Stop treating every request like an emergency.

And most importantly:
Stop confusing self-neglect with dedication.

I don’t need to become someone new.

I need to start taking care of the person I already am.

Me. My team. Then everyone else.

Time to practice what I preach.

When does workplace accountability cross the line into a pile-on?

There is a difference between addressing poor behaviour and destroying a person in the process.

This post is about leadership, workplace conflict, mental health, and what happens when honest conversations are replaced by gossip, alliances, and public humiliation.

Have you ever watched workplace conflict turn into something personal?

Read the full post and share your thoughts. Let’s talk about how we can hold people accountable without stripping them of their dignity.

Lets also talk about speaking up for people who end up in someones crosshairs.

Workplace conflict becomes dangerous when accountability turns into isolation, gossip, and a campaign to make one person the problem. This is a hard-earned reflection on leadership, fairness, mental health, and why we must hold people accountable without destroying them in the process.

I’ve been a little quieter around here lately—but not because I have my desire to help has lessened - infact it has grown exponentially.

As some of you know, I recently stepped into a full-time role at another emergency services training institution. It has been demanding, rewarding, exhausting, and eye-opening—and it has left me thinking hard about leadership, workplace culture, kindness, humility, mental health, and what we expect from the people who serve beside us and the expectation we have for individuals like my students who will be entering the life.

Now, I’m getting back to Grit + Valor.

This latest blog post comes from some of the thoughts I have been carrying since returning to full-time work. It is honest, a little uncomfortable, and written from a place of wanting us to do better—for ourselves and for each other.

I would genuinely love to hear your perspective.

What stood out to you?
What made you think?
What have you experienced in your own workplace or emergency services career?

Read it. Comment your thoughts. Share it with someone who needs to hear it.

Let’s start a real conversation. 🔥

Kindness is not weakness. Humility is not insecurity. In the fire service, we talk a lot about strength—but real strength is having the guts to be human, to make mistakes, to ask for help, and to lead without tearing people down. We do not need a softer fire service. We need a healthier one.

YET.

Four letters.
Infinite possibility.

“Can’t.”
“I’m not ready.”
“That won’t work.”
“I don’t have what it takes.”

Add one word: YET.

I can’t do that… yet.
I’m not disciplined… yet.
I’m not strong enough… yet.
I haven’t figured it out… yet.

YET shifts your brain from defeat to growth.
From fixed mindset to resilience.
From stuck… to becoming.

Your habits aren’t permanent.
Your fear isn’t final.
Your current reality isn’t your ceiling.

Growth is a decision.
Resilience is trainable.
Confidence is built.

You’re not behind.
You’re building.

If you’re ready to stop telling yourself “I can’t” and start building your “YET,” this is your sign.

At Grit + Valor Wellness Collective, we help people strengthen their mindset, build better habits, and create real, lasting change — especially those who carry heavy responsibility like first responders and high performers.

Drop a 🔥 if you’re claiming your “YET.”
Or send a message if you’re ready to start building it.

Some days your biggest opponent isn’t the world.

It’s your own mind.

The constant “don’t forget…”
The “what if…”
The overthinking.
The paralysis.
The guilt for being overwhelmed in the first place.

I wrote something raw this week about what it’s like to live with a brain that runs a million miles a minute — and how I stopped fighting it and started training it instead.

This one is honest.
It’s gritty.
And it’s about taking responsibility for your mental resilience.

If you’ve ever:
• Felt mentally exhausted by your own thoughts
• Struggled with catastrophizing or negative self-talk
• Used distractions just to quiet the noise
• Wondered why “simple” things feel overwhelming

You’re not broken — but you do need tools.

I talk about meditation (real practice, not fluff), movement as medicine, nutrition and brain function, and what it actually looks like to build calm instead of waiting for it.

I’d love to know:

👉 Does your brain ever feel like it works against you?
👉 What helps you reset when you’re overwhelmed?

Drop your thoughts below. Let’s normalize this conversation.

When your mind runs a million miles a minute, it can feel like you’re fighting yourself just to function. In this gritty, honest reflection, I unpack the overwhelm, the paralysis, and the hard-earned strategies — from meditation and movement to nutrition — that helped me stop battling my brain...

🚨 Grit & Valor Coaching is back in action, taking one step at a time....

After some time behind the scenes refining, learning, and living the lessons I coach… I’m showing up again — more intentional than ever. Persistence is key to reaching our goals. Re-locating to a new province has provided more valuable lessons and perspectives.

I’m kicking it off with a blog post that hits a little too close to home for most of us.

It’s about:
▪️ The 10% of ourselves we hide
▪️ “Coffee friends” vs. “whiskey friends.”
▪️ Why we feel like we’re living as two different people
▪️ Boundaries, authenticity, and protecting your peace
▪️ Choosing relationships and habits that actually fuel you

If you’ve been feeling drained, stretched thin, or like you’re performing instead of living… this one is for you.

This isn’t surface-level motivation.
This is the real, uncomfortable, growth kind.

👉 Read the blog. Reflect. Then ask yourself who and what you’re giving your energy to.
