Dr. Fiona Lovegrove (MD, PhD) is a dermatologist and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Dermatology. Dermatology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions. *General dermatology patients are seen by referral only (referral from your family doctor or another specialist). These appointments are covered under OHIP. *Cosmetic/aesthetic patients are seen by appointment. No referral required for cosmetic appointments. We offer injectable treatments (Botox®, fillers), skincare consultations, facials, microneedling and laser treatments. Consultations with the Nurse Injector and Aesthetician are complimentary. 🌎 Dr. Fiona Lovegrove recently travelled to São Paulo, Brazil, to participate in *Reveal*, an international train-the-trainer program bringing together dermatologists to discuss advances in psoriasis treatment.

Having served as a principal investigator in two phase 3 trials of icotrokinra, Dr. Lovegrove particularly enjoyed discussing how the trial findings connect with our clinical experience and what these results could mean for patients living with psoriasis.

It was a privilege to share insights alongside Brazilian psoriasis experts, fellow ICONIC investigators and Dr. Jennifer Soung.

This was Dr. Lovegrove’s first visit to Brazil! With 36 hours in São Paulo, a little sightseeing and an introduction to the city’s famously busy traffic, it was certainly a memorable trip. 🚁

A sincere thank you to Renata Giardini Rosa, PhD (J&J Brazil) and Santiago Scarafia (J&J LATAM) for the invitation and warm hospitality, and to everyone who contributed to such thoughtful discussions.

The ABCDE’s of Melanoma

As a dermatology clinic, our mission is to empower you to notice early warning signs of melanoma - because catching it early can save lives.

A trusted framework we use is the ABCDE mnemonic:

A – Asymmetry: If one half of the mole doesn’t mirror the other, it raises concern.

B – Border irregularity: The spot has an irregular or poorly defined border.

C – Colour variation: The spot has multiple colours including brown, black or unusual colours like white, red or blue.

D – Diameter: Most melanomas are bigger than 6mm or the width of a pencil eraser when diagnosed (but can be smaller).

E – Evolving: The spot is changing over time, especially rapidly within weeks or months.

We also emphasize the “Ugly Duckling” sign: a mole or lesion that looks noticeably different from the rest of your moles (even if it doesn’t meet all ABCDE criteria) should also be evaluated promptly.

Why this matters: Melanoma accounts for thousands of new cases annually in Canada, and survival rates are dramatically higher when detection occurs early.
