Completely understandable. That picture is what made you fall in love with the tattoo idea in the first place.

The tricky part? Some tattoo designs online are AI-generated images or heavily edited digital artwork. They can show lighting effects, colours and tiny details that don’t translate directly onto skin.

So when your tattoo artist suggests changes, ask what those changes will do for your tattoo. More space might make the details easier to read. A different size might give your favourite elements the room they need.

There are the obvious things—lines soften, details settle and tattoos naturally change as our skin ages.
But I think there’s a part of the “Will my tattoo age well?” conversation that gets overlooked almost every single time.
And after 15 years of tattooing, it’s actually the part I find the most interesting.

Unpopular tattoo opinion: getting a trendy tattoo doesn’t mean you’re following everyone else. 👀
Sometimes a tattoo trend does something completely different…
It introduces you to an idea you didn’t even know you loved.
You see it once. Then again. Then suddenly you’re thinking, “Okay… I fu***ng NEED that.” 😂
And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
Because inspiration has to come from somewhere.
A trend can introduce you to the concept, but what happens next is where it becomes yours — your story, your meaning, your placement, your details and your interpretation.
The trend gives you the spark. You give the tattoo its soul. 🖤
So if you genuinely love a trending tattoo style, don’t automatically talk yourself out of it just because other people have it.
The better question is: Would I still love this tattoo when the trend isn't trending anymore?
If the answer is yes… maybe you’ve found your tattoo.
