Did you know pelvic organ prolapse can impact younger women too? Factors like pregnancy, childbirth, heavy lifting, and even chronic coughing can weaken your pelvic floor, leading to prolapse. It’s not just an age-related issue—women in their 20s and 30s are at risk, especially if there’s a family history or certain lifestyle habits in play.

However, there are ways to protect your pelvic health. Regular pelvic floor exercises, maintaining a healthy weight, and being cautious with heavy lifting can make a big difference.

Did you know that COVID-19 could impact your pelvic health?

Chronic coughing, common in COVID-19, can lead to urinary incontinence, f***l incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse.

Why does this happen? Every time you cough, your abdominal muscles contract, increasing pressure on your pelvic floor. Over time, this repetitive pressure can weaken these muscles and tissues, leading to bladder and bowel control issues.

If you've had COVID-19 and are experiencing pelvic health issues, we recommend talking to a health professional.

The Pelvic Floor: A True Superstar! 🌟⁣

Your pelvic floor plays a crucial role in supporting your bladder, bowel, and uterus. However, when it becomes weakened or stretched, the pelvic organs can descend through the vaginal canal, leading to pelvic organ prolapse (POP).⁣

Many of us aren't taught about the pelvic floor, so it's no surprise that we don't think about it until issues arise. That's why our social channels are dedicated to raising awareness about the pelvic floor and POP.⁣

We're developing a custom pessary to match your unique anatomy and support with managing symptoms of prolapse. Our goal is to create a pessary that is:⁣

- More comfortable⁣
- More secure⁣
- Easier to insert and remove than existing options⁣

There's a common belief that heavy lifting can cause or worsen pelvic organ prolapse (POP). But what does the evidence say? Let's break it down:

The Facts:

1. Benefits of Strength Training: Contrary to popular belief, weightlifting, when done correctly, can actually strengthen pelvic floor muscles. Stronger pelvic muscles can support your organs better and potentially reduce the risk of prolapse.

2. Proper Technique Matters: Using correct form and breathing techniques can significantly minimize the risk. Engage your core, avoid holding your breath (which can increase intra-abdominal pressure), and lift with your legs, not your back.

3. Consider Individual Factors: Your risk of developing prolapse from lifting is influenced by pre-existing conditions, genetics, and overall pelvic floor health. If you have a history of pelvic floor issues, you may be more susceptible.

4. Listen to Your Body: It’s crucial to pay attention to your body's signals. If you feel discomfort or symptoms of prolapse (like a bulging sensation), stop and consult with a healthcare professional.

5. Consult Professionals: Before starting or continuing a heavy lifting routine, it’s wise to consult with a pelvic floor specialist or physiotherapist. They can provide personalized advice and techniques to ensure you lift safely. Additionally, if you have hypertonic (extremely tense) pelvic floor muscles, some exercises can cause further strain and aggravate existing muscle tension. Please consult with a provider for personalized guidance.

Remember, strength training is beneficial, but like all exercises, it should be done with proper technique and awareness of your body's limits.
