When you move to a new land, learning about the political system takes a back seat. There is so much you have to figure out before you have the bandwidth to pay attention to how the electoral system works, and most of us naturally assume our Canadian system would be similar to our own systems. Yet, policies, and politician decisions impact our lives and our families in profound ways.

I ran as a candidate in the first provincial election I was able to vote. I believe my power lies in community work, but politics are still so important. That's why I'll be running an election literacy workshop for newcomers and 1st time voters on Tuesday at the New West Welcome Center.

Political and electoral literacy is also so important for our sense of belonging and empowerment. Our knowledge helps us understand what is going on and what we can do to change what's not working.

۳۰ سپتامبر، روز حقیقت و تفاهم در کانادا

۳۰ ستامبر، هر ساله به عنوان روز حقیقت و تفاهم مورد بزرگداشت قرار میگیره. این روز، که قبلا روز لباس نارنجا نامگزاری شده بود، از سال ۲۰۱۳ بنیان نهاده شد. دلیل این روز، برای یادآوری کودکان بومی که در کانادا داخل سیستم مدارس شبانه‌روزی کشته شده‌اند شروع شد.
دانستن این قسمت از تاریخ کانادا و تاریخ بومیان ساکنین این مرز و بوم برای ما مهاجران اهمیت زیادی دارد.
ما به عنوان مهاجران در این سرزمین وظیفه داریم در مورد سابقه استعمار ملل بومی اینجا و استثمار زمین ها و منابع آنها، دانش کسب کنیم.
امکان دارد بعضی از ما فکر کنیم این داستانها مال گذشته است و یک سری مشکلات دیگر وجود ندارند. یا بعضی از ما، برخی ساکنین بومی را در فقر میبینیم و باور داریم که با تمام منابعی که اینجا وجود دارد، چطور یک نفر میشود در همچین فقری قرار بگیرد. امکان هم دارد دلیل اهمیت اسم بردن از سرزمینی بومیانی که در آن هستیم را ندانیم. این افکار و باورها دقیقا دلیل نیاز به یادگیری ما هست.

مسیولیت یادگیری در مورد میراث و تبعات مدارس شبانه‌روزی،‌ ساکن‌نشینی اجباری،‌ باورهای تبعیض‌گرانه و اشتباه، و نحوه تجلی نژادپرستی در جامعه کنونی، به عهده ماست.

متاسفانه در مورد تاریخ و قدمت بومیان منابع کمی به فارسی وجود دارند. اگر امکانش رو دارید، سرزدن به این اکانت‌ها میتواند به این یادگیری کمک کنند.

Come try community acupuncture at Nabat!

If you're a racialized person from the Global South, looking for a great place to get treatment, book a session with us.

On Friday and Sunday afternoon, Nabat offers communal acupuncture- you'll be greeted by our acupuncturist, have a 10-15 minute assessment and then you can stay up to 45 minutes.

If you have never tried acupuncture, or had a painful experience with dry needling, this might be for you. In traditional method, body is NOT into forced a treatment. The provider pays attention to your skin's and body's reaction and if your body is not comfortable with the treatment, that is respected and honored.

The practitioner will not "work on your body", but *with* your body.
