An Important Update from the Smileworx team:

As the COVID-19 situation evolves, we continue to monitor the RCDSO and CDHO guidelines. We are pleased to inform you that we will be re-opening our office stage-wise on June 11, 2020.

Our office has always been highly focused on maintaining strict infection protocols to prioritize the health and well-being of our team and the community. In light of this pandemic, as we prepare to re-open, we are implementing additional safety protocols and regret to inform you that hygiene therapy will not be offered during the first stage.

We are committed in doing our part to stop the spread of COVID-19. For this reason, here are some of the changes you will notice at your next appointment:

· A short health assessment and a touch less temperature check will be conducted upon your arrival at the office.

· You may be asked to wait outside our office or, in your car until we are ready for you.

· Hand sanitizers are placed at the entrance to be used while entering and exiting the office.

· Each operatory is equipped with a temporary door to contain the aerosol.

· Magazines, children’s toys and coffee machines will no longer be offered in the waiting area to increase the protection of our patients and team.

· Appointments will be spaced out to allow physical distancing and time for our team to disinfect the office, which may result in less flexibility for scheduling appointments.

· Provider may be wearing more personal protective equipment than usual.

· Contactless payment methods are highly encouraged.

· Our team members will also be screened everyday as per the recommended guidelines.

We sincerely thank you for your cooperation, patience and loyalty throughout this unprecedented time. We truly value your trust and look forward to welcoming you again.

Sincerely,

The Smileworx Family

At Smileworx, the health and safety of both our patients and our team is our number one priority. It has been highly recommended by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario that we suspend all non-emergency treatment immediately. The RCDSO and CDHO will revisit this decision the first week of April. If you have a dental emergency please email us at [email protected].

Stay healthy everyone!

Regular use of dental floss removes plaque, helping to prevent the buildup of plaque, which can lead to tartar. Simply flossing your teeth can make them look brighter by removing plaque and excess food particles that you may not see in the mirror or in areas that your toothbrush doesn't reach.

We are pleased to offer therapeutic Botox injections for the treatment of Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD), tension headaches and migraines. TMD and migraines are often linked as the muscles in the head and neck all work in balance.
Botox has been approved by the FDA to treat chronic migraines in adults. Injections of Botox into the affected muscles can decrease the intensity of muscle contractions. It does not mean that your muscles will not function. Botox relaxes the muscles enough to prevent the extreme contractions that can cause pain.

Gum disease starts with the formation of hard and soft deposits on the surface of the teeth. Over time, a buildup of bacteria called plaque collects at the gum line, eventually hardening on the teeth into deposits called calculus or tartar.

Without proper oral care, these bacteria can cause inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), penetrate the gum line and finally spread into the underlying bone (periodontitis).

If left untreated, the infection can eventually lead to shrinking and/or swelling, bleeding gums, loose teeth, abscesses and, ultimately, loss of teeth.

Dental hygienists help you prevent gum disease and tooth decay. They work with you to help keep your mouth healthy Dental hygienists help you attain and maintain oral health, making an important contribution to your overall health.

Periodontal (gum) disease is one of the most common human diseases. The signs of gum disease may include bleeding or swollen gums. It’s an infectious condition that can result in the destruction of gum tissue and bone. If left untreated, the bacteria that cause gum disease may travel through the blood stream increasing the chance of heart disease, stroke, respiratory diseases and pregnancy complications.

The link between oral infections and other diseases in the body is becoming well documented and accepted within the health care community. It underscores the importance of good oral hygiene and the role dental hygienists play in preventing oral disease.

By the time your child is two or three years of age, he or she has less need to suck. If your child still likes to suck, a soother is better than sucking a thumb. Why? Because you can control when and how your child uses a soother. You can't control a thumb going into the mouth.

Never put sugar, honey or corn syrup on a soother. They can cause cavities. It's best to get your child to stop sucking before permanent teeth come in, at about age five. If a child keeps sucking a soother or thumb after the permanent teeth have come in, it could cause problems with how the jaw and teeth grow.

Taking proper care of your teeth and gums is a lifelong commitment. It includes a good oral hygiene routine that you follow at home, as well as regular visits to your dentist and an overall "team" approach to your oral care. By taking these simple steps, there's every reason why you should keep your "oral health - good for life."

November 20th each year recognizes National Child’s Day and all the potential represented by our children’s ambitions, dreams, and goals. Through educational goals, STEAM projects, and academic missions, educators and families join forces to provide excellence at all levels of education.

Education begins at home, and by providing parents with resources vital to growing minds, we encourage curiosity and brain development. From the day they are born their education begins. Language and social skills are essential building blocks to any child’s early education.
