Homemade Flour Tortillas, Naan Flatbread and Pita
Bread.

Recipes👇

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 2/3 cups hot water
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instruction:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.

Add the water and butter and using your hands, mix together the dough until it is a cohesive ball and all of the liquid has been absorbed. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time, as needed.

Transfer the dough onto your work surface and knead it about 10 times until it becomes smooth all over.

Divided the dough into 12 equal balls then flat each ball slightly into the shape of a hockey puck. Flour each piece of dough on both sides then set them aside and cover them with a towel.

Heat a large nonstick sauté pan over medium-high heat.

Roll out one piece of dough into an 8-inch circle then transfer it to the hot pan. Cook the tortilla for about 1 minute then flip it once and continue cooking it an additional 30 seconds or until golden brown spots appear on both sides. Transfer the tortilla from the pan into a towel and cover it while you roll out and cook the remaining tortillas.

Easy Pita Bread Recipe

Ingredients:
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
3/4 cup warm water (around 100°F / 38°C)
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:
In a small bowl, mix the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled — about 1 hour.

Punch down the dough and divide it into 6–8 pieces. Roll each into a ball, then flatten into circles about 1/4 inch thick.

Heat a heavy skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Place one pita into the hot pan. Cook for about 1–2 minutes until bubbles form, then flip and cook another 1–2 minutes.

Wrap cooked pitas in a clean kitchen towel to keep them soft.

Homemade Naan Flatbread

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon instant yeast or active dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup warm water
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

Optional (for brushing):
Melted butter or garlic butter
Chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Stir to form a rough dough.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and soft. (If sticky, add a little flour. If too dry, add a splash of water.)

Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise until doubled — about 1 hour.

Punch down the dough and divide into 6–8 pieces. Roll each piece into an oval or tear-drop shape about 1/4 inch thick.

Heat a cast iron skillet or heavy pan over high heat until very hot. Cook each naan for about 1–2 minutes on the first side (bubbles will form), then flip and cook another 30–60 seconds.

Immediately brush the hot naan with melted butter or garlic butter. Sprinkle with herbs if you like.

Ways to use:
Classic Dipper
- Serve warm with hummus, tzatziki, or baba ganoush.
- Perfect for scooping up Indian curries like butter chicken or tikka masala.

Wraps & Sandwiches
- Use naan as a soft wrap for gyros, shawarma, or falafel.
- Make a quick chicken Caesar naan wrap or fill with roasted veggies and cheese.

Naan Pizza
- Top with tomato sauce, cheese, and your favorite toppings.

Morning oats!!! Oats is rich in a number of nutrients like fiber, carbohydrates, plant-based protein, and B vitamins. This makes it a powerful meal for gut, heart, and brain health. Also, I found that overnight oats contains good amounts of iron which help in keeping muscles healthy.

Almond milk, organic quick oats, a little bit of local maple syrup, organic strawberries 🍓 , shaved dark chocolate 🍫 and a few sprinkled Chia seeds!!!!

Ways to reduce food waste 🍌 ⠀
Here are some great eco tips to help cut back on food waste to save your wallet and the environment.
Notes on each tip below: ⠀
1: Storing carrots & celery in water - These methods require a change of water every few days, one way to make sure that water doesn't go to waste is to give it to your veggie garden, herb garden or other plants.⠀
2: Freeze herbs for later - After the herbs have frozen in your ice cube tray, just pop them out and put them into a container, then back into the freezer! That way you can still use your ice cube tray.⠀
3: Banana Peels - 1️⃣ Take your banana peels, and let them soak in water for a couple of days. 2️⃣ Take your banana peels out of the water and compost them, then water your plants with the banana-soaked water!⠀
4: Juice lemons & freeze - After the lemon juice is frozen, you can pop the frozen lemon juice cubes out of the tray and put them into a container then back into the freezer so you can still use your ice cube tray.⠀
5: Keep Potatoes Fresher - Apples produce ethylene gas, and ethylene gas keeps potatoes fresher and firmer! To make your potatoes last as long as possible, store them in a dark, cool room, and away from onions!

Homemade all the way!! 🫶🏽

Ketchup

Ingredients:

9 ripe tomatoes
¼ cup brown sugar or honey or maple syrup
¼ cup distilled white vinegar
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
salt ( adjust to taste)
Recipe:

Firstly, blanch the tomatoes in enough water. Further cover and boil for 3 minutes or till the skin of tomatoes starts to separate. Cool down the tomatoes completely, and transfer to the blender. Puree the tomatoes without adding any water. Using a fine filter, extract the tomato puree separating seeds and skin of tomatoes.

Then, into a saucepan, add in the tomato puree, add in sugar, vinegar and all the spices. Mix well. Cook on low for 30-40 minutes or until desired consistency. Stirring occasionally.

2. Sweet Chili Sauce

Ingredients:

2-3 teaspoon dried red chilies flakes
(use more or less according to your preference)
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup water
5 garlic cloves – finely chopped
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp corn flour + 2 tbsp water( mix to create a corn flour slurry)

Add rice vinegar, water, garlic, sugar, chilies and soy sauce into a saucepan and heat over medium heat while stirring to dissolve the sugar. When it starts to bubble, add in the corn flour slurry (premixed with the water, without lumps) and mix well so that it doesn’t clump. Let it cool completely and it’s then ready to use. Store in the refrigerator for up to two months.

3. Peanut Sauce

1/3 cup peanut butter (creamy) – homemade peanut butter
2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
¼ tsp ground ginger
1 tsp rice wine vinegar
2 tbsp water
½ tsp sesame seeds
Recipe:

Add in all the ingredients into a bowl (except the water) and give it a good mix. Then, little by little add in the water, until the mixture turns into a sauce or dip like consistency. Mix well and it is ready to use. If you want the peanut sauce to be spicy then add in 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Keep it in a air tight container for up to 2 weeks.

4. Honey Mustard Sauce

Ingredients:

1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp sour cream
½ tbsp lemon juice
(Or diluted white vinegar)
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp yellow mustard

Recipe:

Into a mixing bowl, add in all the ingredients and give it a good mix. It is ready to use, store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks, in the refrigerator.

So...
If Red dye #40 kills a plant, what do you think it’s doing to our cells?

Below is a picture of a simple experiment of how different food coloring changes the color of the celery plant.

Well, take notice of the red dye #40...it KILLED the celery plant in just a day! Red dye #40 is in a lot of candy and processed foods, Gatorade, etc. 🤔 and it’s not like the other two are without effect, trust me. Just removing foods with artificial colorings/dyes could substantially change your child’s behavior, mood, hyperactivity, etc.

You would be amazed at how a child's behaviour can change just from cleaning up their diet. We work on being better every day! ☺️
