But I know it can feel that way.

For many of us, we are taught from a very young age that
๐Ÿ˜ข Gaining weight is shameful
๐Ÿ˜ข Being attractive to the males gaze is important
๐Ÿ˜ข Being pretty is our responsibility

I have heard all of those messages too.

AND, We can choose to drop out. To end the shame cycle and to walk away from this system of oppression.

๐ŸŽ™On this weeks podcast episode, I had the pleasure to talk with David Bedrick a psychotherapist and writer about the intersection of body shame, sexism and patriarchy.

David is a story teller and ans amazing human being. He has spent his life fighting systems of oppressions and allows space for people to feel.

Many of my clients will
1๏ธโƒฃ judge themselves for being hungry
2๏ธโƒฃoverly question their hunger aka not trust themselves.

Unfortunately this is a byproduct of living in diet culture.

Not only is hunger normal, it is AWESOME! Itโ€™s literally your body speaking to you ๐Ÿ—ฃ

So if you are feeling hungry โœจHONOUR IT โœจ and be ๐Ÿ”ŽCURIOUS๐Ÿง.

You can ask yourself :
- Am I eating enough?

Yup, I feel you.

Many of us struggle with our inner mean girl/bully/critic ALL DAY LONG.

I like to imagine this as someone yelling hurtful things in your ear constantly.. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๐Ÿ‘‚

How difficult would it be to enjoy your day to day and be present? (Answer: REALLY HARD!)

We know that our thoughts will impact our emotions and behaviours. So changing our inner dialogue is SOOOO beneficial in living a happy life!

Weight stigma in the health care system is a major issue that actually *decreases* health outcomes.

This is also the case in eating disorder care. The fear of weight gain related to weight stigma can increase eating disorder behaviours.

Yup I hear you. And you are not alone.

We are taught that losing weight (or continuously trying to) is a badge of honour. It means you โ€œcareโ€ about yourself and increases your worth.

Therefore, if we stopped dieting and worked on self acceptance it would mean: we are giving up ...๐Ÿ˜”

But the truth, your weight loss quest does not :
๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธmake you better or more valuable person
๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ isnโ€™t necessarily a way to take care of yourself.
๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ does not necessarily increase your health outcomes (sometimes it even impacts your health negatively)
and it may (most likely) not even lead to weight loss..

So then what?

๐Ÿ‘ŠWe work on healing the relationship we have with our body.
๐Ÿ‘ŠWe work on unlearning the harmful messages from diet culture.

Meet Marie-Pier

Marie-Pier always had a passion to teach and help others. She started her journey in psychology, graduating with B.Sc. Psychology and continued her studies in nutrition to become a Registered Dietitian.โ€‹

Her interest to help others heal their relationship with food and their bodies came from her own struggles. After graduating from her first bachelor's, Marie-Pier develop an eating disorder. She is no stranger to fearing foods, feeling out of control and hating her body. After battling her ED for several years, Marie-Pier recovered and found her new passion... help others heal their relationship with food and their bodies, so they too can start living freely.

During recovery journey, Marie-Pier found that there was a huge gap between nutrition counselling and psychology.

โ€‹Marie-Pier started her private practice to fill this gap. Since then, Marie-Pier has helped hundreds of women give up dieting and finally make peace with food and their bodies.โ€‹
