Our Baby & Toddler Swap is BACK for round three! 🎉

We’ve hosted this event twice before, and both times you completely blew us away with how much our community showed up. So naturally… we had to do it again. 💛
Bring us your clean, outgrown baby + toddler clothes, toys and books from November 9–13. Please sort clothing by size, and your donation earns you an entry into our prize draws from local businesses!

Then come shop the swap for FREE:
📅 Sunday, November 15
⏰ 9:30 AM–12:30 PM
📍 Rooted Family Wellness Centre 30 Edgewater Street, Unit 121

You do not need to donate to come shop. Everyone is welcome!

There’ll also be a play area, snacks + hot drinks, and fundraising for local programming. Anything left afterward will be donated to local families.

Start clearing those closets 👀 and send this to an Ottawa parent who should come with you!

Trigger Warning: This episode includes conversations about pregnancy and infant loss.

21 years ago, Jen left the hospital after losing her twin daughters with two memory boxes in her hands. She still considers them some of her most meaningful belongings.

In this episode, Jen Thompson, infant and pregnancy loss doula and founder of The Soul’s Nest joins us to talk about grief after loss, pregnancy after loss, memory-making, advocacy, and what meaningful support can look like for families.

If you’ve experienced pregnancy or infant loss, or you love someone who has, we hope this conversation offers something helpful.

Hear the full conversation on the Rooted Family podcast.

When someone you love is grieving a pregnancy or infant loss, it can be hard to know what to say or how to help.

The Butterfly Box offers one small, thoughtful way to show them they’re not alone. 🦋

Each box is packed with comforting, locally sourced items and delivered completely free to families in Ottawa and surrounding areas.

Inside, families may receive:
• forget-me-not flower seeds
• a locally handmade candle
• bubble bath
• a butterfly pendant
• tissues
• tea
• a sweet treat
• a handwritten card
• additional grief resources

You can request a Butterfly Box for yourself or for someone you love.

You can also donate to help provide a box to another Ottawa family experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. The Butterfly Box is possible because of the generous donation of Ottawa Fertility Centre, Sponship from Rooted Family Wellness Centre and all the amazing volunteers that donate their time and efforts.

A small gesture can’t take away someone’s grief, but it can remind them that they are cared for, remembered, and supported.

Postpartum exercise should look different.

Not easier for the sake of being easier, but more intentional about what your body is rebuilding.

→ reconnecting your breath, core + pelvic floor
→ rebuilding strength and stability

→ adapting movement for concerns like diastasis, pelvic floor symptoms or discomfort

This is a 4-week physiotherapy-led series for anyone wanting a stronger foundation before returning to more demanding exercise.

When your baby is in the NICU, there may never feel like a “good” reason to leave.

Amanda’s son spent 65 days in hospital. She remembers leaving without him again and again, probably more than 100 times.

And at some point, she had to find a way to live in both worlds: being there for her baby while also going home, eating, sleeping, pumping, recovering from birth and taking care of herself.

Leaving didn’t mean she wanted to be away from him. It meant trusting the people caring for him and finding a way to keep going through a season no parent expects to be in.

In this episode of The Rooted Family Podcast, Amanda shares an honest look at premature birth, NICU life and becoming a parent in circumstances that looked very different from what she had imagined.

For any NICU parents who recognize this feeling: you’re not alone. ❤️

The transition to parenthood can put a very real strain on a relationship. Gottman research has found that about 67% of couples experience a significant decline in relationship quality during the first three years after having a baby.

One of the foundations of the Gottman Method is strengthening the friendship underneath the relationship through things like:

→ noticing and expressing appreciation
→ responding to small bids for connection
→ understanding what your partner is experiencing
→ communicating needs more effectively
→ learning healthier ways to navigate conflict
→ rebuilding a sense of “we”

We’re so excited to offer virtual couples counselling with Krista Fraser-King, RP. Krista is a Gottman-trained Registered Psychotherapist whose focus areas include perinatal mental health, relationships, identity, attachment and intimacy, with clinical experience supporting couples navigating fertility, grief and loss, anxiety and major life transitions.

Her approach is collaborative and compassionate, helping couples better understand each other, work through patterns that keep coming up, and create more space for connection in this very full season of life.

💻 Virtual appointments available to couples across Ontario.
