Howdy folks,

🚨🚨🚨MARKET IN THE PARK🚨🚨🚨

Looking for a fun way to spend one of the last warm Saturdays of the year? This Saturday (October 16th), plan to take a walk around some of the conservation trails at Pioneer Plains Park, where more than twenty local artisans and businesses are participating in a pop-up market for a charitable cause.

With the fundraiser supporting The Snowsuit Fund, proceeds from vendor registrations, sponsorships, and on-site fundraising will directly support the purchase of snowsuits for children from low-income families living in Ottawa. Donations of gently used and laundered snowsuits, as well as monetary donations, will also be accepted on site.

The Snowsuit Fund is an Ottawa-based charity that raises funds for the purchase and distribution of snowsuits to needy children 15 years and under. Every year, the charity distributes 16,000 or more snowsuits.

Market in the Park takes place on Saturday, October 16th, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Plains Park (Stittsville Main St and Kimpton Dr). There are many local vendors participating in Market in the Park this year:

Rock Out 4 Jack
Nat’s Bread Company Ltd.
The Gnome Dealer
Lullabuys Consignment
Spence Retro Gaming
Total Ignite
JacintaINK/JacintaPICS
Murphy-Burke Designs
This N That Cre8tions
ScienceCobs
Skip the Kibble
CZEN WARES
The Cozy Crosby
Crafted by Claudia
Sociable Stylist
Soap Chest Quest
Avo Initiative Ltd.
Little Red Brick House
Illusive Artworks
Willfully Wired
Spiceful Cuisine
Caitlin’s Creations
Knot Hole Woodworking

Admission to the market is free. However, everyone is encouraged to purchase at least one raffle ticket (only $5). Raffle prizes are generously donated by vendors, and all proceeds from the raffle will go to The Snowsuit Fund. Visitors are asked to please bring cash, as not all vendors will be accepting payments by card or electronic methods. While parking is available at the park, please utilize the ample space for street parking on Stittsville Main Street in order to reserve closer parking spaces for persons with disabilities.

As per COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, there is a limit to the number of participants in the market (including all guests, vendors, and volunteers). Everyone is expected to stay two metres apart from each other, and to wear a mask while participating in the market. Additionally, there will be a sanitizing station upon entry. Since it is an outdoor event, proof of vaccination is not required.

Make your way to Pioneer Plains Park this Saturday to enjoy a morning walk, support a great cause and local businesses, and kickstart your holiday shopping!

If you can’t make it, but would love to support The Snowsuit Fund | Le Fonds Habineige by purchasing raffle tickets, please reach out to Skyla Baroud (of Skyla Handmade), organizer of this year’s Market in the Park.
You will have a chance to win 1 of 8 themed baskets, AND support a much-needed cause💕

The Hello Baby basket
The Foodie basket
The Festive basket
The Home decor basket
The Cozy basket
The health & fitness basket
The Homebody basket
The Games basket

I could also purchase tickets on your behalf. And it would be a wonderful opportunity to purchase guitar raffle tickets too🤟

Thanks for reading. Hope to see you there🙏

Stittsville Lions Club is graciously hosting a curb-side bottle drive in support of Jack…

This Saturday September 18th, 9am - 1pm
at the Lions Club’s parking lot: 1339 Stittsville Main Street

The Lions focus on five global causes:
- Diabetes
- Environment
- Hunger
- Childhood Cancer
- Vision

Vision:

Ever since Helen Keller inspired us to champion the cause in 1925, we’ve served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired. Nearly a century later, this long-standing mission continues unhindered.

One of Jack’s many disabilities is vision impairment; Optic Nerve Coloboma, a birth defect for which there is no treatment or cure.
The Lions have kindly supported Jack for the past few years, for which we are truly grateful🙏

Unfortunately my health will not allow me to do pickups this time around. However I will be on-site with our amazing guitars on display. Please stop by, say hi, buy some tix, and pick up some glow-in-the-dark bracelets for the kids (and kids at heart😁).

If you wish to donate your empties but would prefer a pickup, please message me. We have several selfless volunteers on standby to help in any capacity.

Another option is the Stittsville Beer Store. If you happen to return your empties the team will happily hold on to your donation in Jack’s name.
And as always, our home at 419 Montserrat Street is always available.

Here is a short version of Jack’s story:

Meet Jack.

Jack is a young Stittsville boy who was born with CHARGE Syndrome; a rare and life-limiting disorder that arises during early fetal development & affects multiple organ systems. Jack is Tracheostomy dependent, has a feeding tube insertion and is deaf-with vision impairment. He has had 20 surgeries to date (#21 coming soon). Jack has had numerous admissions to CHEO totaling over 2 years, and he also requires 24-hour nursing care. Jack was subsequently diagnosed with severe autism and continues to battle epilepsy…at one point over 100 visible seizures daily were common.
His mom has not been able to work since Jack was born, as she is Jack's primary nurse. And his dad is battling guarded, high-risk cancer. The family is without private insurance; the costs of little Jack’s life sustaining medical supplies alone (tracheostomy & enteral feeding) are astronomical.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have supported & continue to wonderfully support us🙏

Anyone out there that wants to help out an old man with a bad knee?
A great opportunity for a young person or two, to earn $$ for a few hours work, hopefully today, to take the empties to the Stittsville beer store to redeem.
Please note there quite a few cases of beer not pictured that are in the garage.

Happy Heat Wave friends & neighbours, I’m hoping this post finds you happy, cool and well.

A few residents have reached out to ask if our bottle drive is still on. Yes indeed! Thank you for asking.

We have set up a ‘ROCK OUT 4 Jack’ bottle drive for this Sunday August 29th.

I’m sorry, I won’t be picking up this time around (as I continue to battle cancer, osteoarthritis, and lymph oedema in my leg), but we have a team of amazing volunteers who will be picking up in your neighbourhood❤️

But don’t fret😁
I will be stationed at our drop off location (for those that prefer this), which will be located at:

Brown’s Your independent Grocer
Sunday August 29th
9am-3pm

Look for the big blue ROCK OUT 4 JACK tent.

For those that have donated, and continue to donate, I’m truly grateful for each and every one of you.

If you happen to have empties that you wish to kindly donate, please comment, or reach out via pm. I’m gratefully looking forward to hearing from you.

🚙A volunteer will happily visit this Sun Aug 29th🚙
