Last weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in Walk with a Doc — a simple but powerful reminder that health does not only happen inside the clinic. It happens in our daily choices. It happens when we move our bodies. It happens when we spend time outside. It happens when we connect with our community.

Before the walk, I spoke briefly about one of my favorite messages: Walking is simple, but it is not small. As a preventive cardiology and longevity physician, I spend a lot of time talking about cholesterol, blood pressure, advanced testing, medications when needed, and long-term risk reduction. But the foundation of health is still built on the basics repeated consistently.

Walking supports:
Heart health
Blood pressure
Blood sugar control
Mood and stress
Sleep
Brain health
Mobility and independence

Longevity is not just about living longer. It is about staying healthy, capable, and independent enough to keep doing the things we love. Every walk is a vote for your future self.

Thank you and and for including me. Grateful to everyone who came out today and made this such a meaningful event.

This weekend, I had the privilege of attending Fight for the Cure in Ottawa in support of cancer care and research through The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. It was an incredible evening of courage, community, and purpose. The event brought together Ottawa community leaders who trained, fundraised, and stepped into the ring for something bigger than themselves — supporting a stronger future for cancer care.

I was there to support the cause, but more specifically to support my friend Adam Livingston of Nutrichem. Adam stepped into the ring with heart, discipline, and determination — and won his fight. But the bigger victory was the reason he was there.

Cancer affects so many patients, families, friends, and communities. Events like this are a reminder that the fight against cancer takes many forms: care, research, fundraising, advocacy, and people willing to show up.

Congratulations, Adam. Proud to have been in your corner.

Hormone therapy is not the villain. But it is also not the entire longevity plan.

Many women have heard two very different messages about menopause hormone therapy.
First: “Be afraid of hormones.”
Now, increasingly: “Hormones are the answer to everything.”

The truth is more nuanced. For many women in perimenopause and early menopause, hormone therapy can be safe and very helpful when prescribed thoughtfully.

But it should not replace a proper cardiovascular and metabolic risk assessment.

Before starting hormone therapy, it is worth understanding:
Your blood pressure
Your cholesterol pattern
Your ApoB
Your Lp(a)
Your blood sugar and insulin resistance risk
Your family history
Whether there is evidence of plaque in your arteries

The better question is not simply: “Are hormones good or bad?” The better question is: “Is hormone therapy appropriate for me, at this time, with my risk profile?”

At Cardiac Longevity Clinic, our HeartWise for Menopause program helps women move beyond fear, hype, and one-size-fits-all advice — and toward a personalized prevention plan for heart health and longevity.

Today’s hike with my mom was one of those simple days that reminded me why I love being outdoors. Fresh air, movement, a beautiful trail, and time with family — hard to beat.

One of the most meaningful parts of the hike was reaching a lookout point where someone had donated a bench in memory of a loved one. It was placed in the perfect spot for people to sit, pause, and enjoy the view.

I thought that was such a beautiful way to honor someone’s life. A quiet gift to strangers. A place for rest, reflection, and gratitude.

As a longevity physician, I talk a lot about prevention, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and cardiovascular health. But longevity is not just about adding years. It is also about having the health and energy to keep doing the things you love, with the people you love.

Today was a good reminder of that. More trails, more fresh air, more family time. That is part of the plan too.

It was an absolute pleasure to present last week at a fundraiser lunch in support of the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre, organized by Richardson Wealth. We had a meaningful conversation about cardiovascular health, longevity, and the importance of asking the right questions before disease develops.

One of the key messages I shared was this: Your health trajectory is not fixed.

With the right conversations, the right data points, and a proactive plan, it is possible to better understand your risks and take meaningful steps to protect both your lifespan and your healthspan.

The theme of the afternoon was empowerment — in health, in planning, and during the major transition points in life.

A sincere thank you to Maryse Filion, Nadia Taliano, Antonio Minicucci, and the entire Richardson Wealth team for organizing such a thoughtful and impactful event.

At Cardiac Longevity Clinic, this is exactly the kind of conversation we believe more people deserve: prevention-focused, data-driven, and empowering.

High performance should not come at the cost of your heart health. Many executives and busy professionals are great at pushing through pressure. They manage stress, deadlines, travel, meetings, and responsibility every day. But the body still keeps score.

I just published an article in Ottawa Business Journal highlighting an important issue that many leaders overlook: cardiovascular risk can build quietly, even when someone feels productive and capable. Stress, poor sleep, irregular meals, alcohol, travel, blood pressure changes, glucose shifts, and reduced recovery can all add up over time.

The key question is not just, “Do I feel healthy?” It is: Is my current lifestyle sustainable for the next 10 to 20 years?

Prevention starts with objective data. Know your numbers. Track your risk. Pay attention before symptoms appear.

Your leadership matters. Your long-term health does too.

We were proud to support the Fore the Ladies Golf Tournament here in Ottawa. This year’s event raised $13,500 in support of DIFD at The Royal . DIFD is doing important work around youth mental health. And that matters deeply to us.

At cardiac longevity clinic, we talk a lot about prevention. About helping people live longer, stronger, and healthier lives. But health is never just physical. Heart health, mental health, movement, nutrition, sleep, stress, community — it is all connected. That is why this cause felt like the right fit for us.

We were happy to donate our services to the charity auction and support an event that brought people together for something meaningful.

Golf has a unique way of doing that.
It gets people outside.
It creates connection.
It builds community.
And in this case, it helped support an important cause.

Congratulations to everyone involved with Fore the Ladies Golf on such a successful event. We are grateful to have played a small part.

Today I completed my initial pre-assessment for the Hyrox Boot Camp at Altea Ottawa— and I’m excited for what comes next.

As a cardiologist and longevity physician, I spend a lot of time talking with patients about prevention, performance, and healthspan. But one of the most important principles applies to all of us:

Your body adapts to what you consistently ask of it.

If we only do what feels comfortable, we maintain.
If we challenge ourselves — intelligently and progressively — we improve.

Physical fitness is not just about looking better or hitting a number on a scale. It is one of the most powerful tools we have to support:

Cardiovascular health
Metabolic function
Muscle strength and bone density
Balance, mobility, and injury prevention
Cognitive performance and emotional resilience
Long-term independence and quality of life
For those of us in midlife and beyond, this becomes even more important. The goal is not perfection. The goal is progress.

That means exposing the body to different types of training: strength, endurance, mobility, balance, power, and recovery. Each one sends a different signal. Each one helps us build a more capable, resilient system.

And there is a larger lesson here, too.

Whether in health, career, relationships, or personal growth, we are never “finished.” There is always another level of awareness, discipline, courage, or capacity we can develop.

You do not need to be starting from an elite level. You only need to be willing to start from where you are — and move forward.

That is what this boot camp represents for me: a commitment to keep challenging myself, keep learning, and keep practicing the same principles I encourage in others.

Here’s to building strength, resilience, and longevity — one intentional step at a time.
