An autoimmune disorder is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue.

There are more than 80 different types of autoimmune disorders. Unique safety issues with drugs used for the treatment of autoimmune disorders have come to light in the recent years, and present challenges in capturing and measuring adverse events in clinical trials and in the broad market-use context. Therefore, the implementation of a wide-spectrum of post-market surveillance activities will facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of rare, but serious, risks of those drugs.
