Today, we commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in history that shaped the world we live in. On June 6, 1944, brave soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, displaying unparalleled courage and resilience. Their sacrifices ensured the freedoms we cherish today.

At Davidson’s, we are profoundly grateful to the veterans who served with such valour. It is our honour to support these heroes, ensuring veterans can hear the world they fought to protect.

Our clinical team spent a very educational day at the Eastern Canada launch of Oticon’s new Intent hearing aid. When you are in our clinic the next time, make sure to ask us how they are using motion sensors to provide better hearing in groups and noise. Their new 4D technology allows the hearing aid to help you access what is important for you to hear in every specific moment!

This new set of pink Phonak hearing aids arrived for a client this week! We don’t get pastel pink hearing aids in that often, but they inspired us to capture this photo with a bag of seasonal mini eggs!

Join us today at the Seniors Active Living Fair in Renfrew. Thursday February 29 from 12:00-4:00. The event is being held at the second floor community centre at 1 Mateway Park Drive, Renfrew. We are offering free hearing screening during the event and providing a presentation on how we hear and the impacts of hearing loss at 2:15!

As a local, family owned business, we get very excited when we can help to support other local businesses. Over the years, Alli Davidson has taken it upon herself to annually source an eclectic mix of fun and local gifts to make up a Christmas gift bag for our wonderful staff. Each year, she gets extra items and we put together a giveaway bag which both showcases the talented artisans in our communities who have worked so hard to help put this together as well as allow us to provide someone with a fun gift! We normally aim to get this out before the holidays, but this year, a couple of the orders came in right at the last moment, so we decided to push the giveaway to the new year! All you have to do to enter is follow our Instagram and/or pages. Share this offer with your friends for a second chance to win. Judy began her journey with Davidson Hearing Aid Centres at our Renfrew clinic back in December 2014, and her impact has been nothing short of remarkable. After almost 9 years in Renfrew, this past summer marked a new chapter for her as she gracefully transitioned into her current role in our Arnprior clinic.

We were able to attend the Final Toy Mountain Event of 2023 last night, as this year's campaign comes to a close. The program was able to provide over 28,000 gifts for children in our community! Thank you so much to everyone who donated to this program.

A group of our Davidson Hearing Aid Centres staff spent a morning sorting donated toys for Toy Mountain this week. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone, but there are still a need for more toys and today is the last day to donate for 2023! Just a reminder, all of our clinics are drop off locations in addition to many other convenient places.

Question: How many of these four battery operated toys in the photograph above, do you think we measured at over an 85dB? That is a level which is certainly a concern for creating noise induced hearing loss for children. Share your answers in the comments.
It is shocking how many toys on the market produce sounds that can actually cause noise exposure damage for children. Not only is it the volume produced by the toy that matters, but also how far away it will be from the child's ears. For very young children, with very short arms, the speakers in the toys tend to be even closer to their ears when held and played with. This makes the volume that reaches their ears much louder than it might be for an adult holding the same toy. Please keep this in mind when purchasing toys for any young children in your life.

On Remembrance Day, we are reminded of the profound and deeply moving symbol of the red poppy. It serves as a unifying emblem that transcends political, cultural, and generational boundaries, prompting us to honour the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who served during times of conflict.

As we contemplate the wars currently happening in our world, we are reminded that the pursuit of peace is an ongoing and vital endeavor. In this reflection, we feel a profound sense of gratitude towards all those who have served and continue to serve.

Throughout our 80 years in business, we have had the privilege of helping thousands of veterans to improve their hearing, a humble way to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for the cause of peace and freedom. In this spirit of remembrance and gratitude, we move forward into November, ready to honour the past and strive for a better future.

This was one of our early newspaper ads, which ran in March 1945 in cooperation with Acousticon hearing aids, discussing their new Futura device. Did you know that modern audiology got its big start following World War II? This was a time when some significant technology enhancements intersected with the increased need for hearing help as a result of so many veterans returning from the war with significant noise exposure hearing loss.

Now that we’re in September, there’s a lot to look forward to, including crisp mornings, crunchy-leaf walks, and that special holiday we call Labour Day.

We found this old newspaper ad that we ran in March 1946. How many ounces do you think this "spectacular, new, smaller and lighter" hearing aid weighed?

For a comparison, the latest rechargeable RIC style hearing aids with Bluetooth connectivity, directional microphones, ear to ear communication, noise compression, amongst other features only weights 2-3 grams. We have come a long way! That's much smaller than just the battery used to be.

In 2022, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) published a study which measured how loud hundreds of cities around the world were. Some of the loudest were measured to have an ambient level which could possibly lead to noise induced hearing loss.
