I’ve never liked using logic to get myself out of a frozen state. Being stuck on the couch with thoughts looping where we can kind of maybe feel everything and nothing at the same time is something we call “emotional flooding.” It’s where the nervous system actually is experiencing a lot of feelings all at once. Because so much is happening at once thanks to all of those thoughts, the nervous system floods and it essentially shuts down (why we may feel “nothing”)
The quickest way I can get out of it is not to think my way out of it, but to tap into what I want to feel. So perfect example of this is if I’m sitting there feeling stuck or feeling bored or feeling irritated or feeling overwhelmed I might ask myself, “but what do you want to feel instead?”
Let’s say I want to feel productive. I’m going to ask myself “What is one thing that you can do right now that’s accessible to you?” It’s important that it’s accessible. I don’t wanna set the bar too high if I don’t have the energy to complete a more intense task. But maybe there’s one small thing I can do that’ll give me the feeling of being productive.
