❄️ Winter's on its way. Are you and your vehicle ready?

Alberta weather can change fast, and on rural roads you may be a long way from help. A little prep now goes a long way:

🚗 Pack a vehicle emergency kit: blankets, extra warm clothes and boots, water and snacks, a first-aid kit, a shovel, scraper and snowbrush, a flashlight, jumper cables, sand or non-clumping cat litter, and a phone charger.
⛽ Try to keep your gas tank more than half full.
📱 Check road conditions with 511 Alberta before you go, and let someone know your route.
🧣 Dress in warm layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer, plus a toque and mittens.
🥶 Know the signs: frostbitten skin can look white and waxy and feel hard. Heavy shivering can be an early sign of hypothermia. Get warm and get medical help.

Questions about staying safe this winter? Call Langdon Medical Family Practice at 403-936-5990 or book online at https://langdonmedical.janeapp.com/. In an emergency, call 911.

🌥️ Shorter days got you feeling down?

As the days get shorter, a lot of us feel more tired or low. For some people it's more than the "winter blues." Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes back around the same season each year, usually fall and winter. It's more common in places far from the equator, like here, where winter days are short.

Signs can include:
• feeling sad, grumpy or anxious
• losing interest in things you usually enjoy
• sleeping more but still feeling tired
• craving carbs like bread and pasta, or gaining weight
• trouble concentrating

The good news is that SAD can be treated. Light therapy is the main treatment, and counselling and medicines can help too.

If this sounds familiar, call Langdon Medical Family Practice at 403-936-5990 or book online at https://langdonmedical.janeapp.com/. We're here to help. 💛

🏡 A cancer screening test you can do at home

If you're 50 to 74, a simple at-home test called a FIT can help find colorectal cancer early, when it's most treatable. It checks for tiny amounts of blood in your stool that you can't see.

✅ It's free
✅ It's done at home
✅ For most people at average risk, it's recommended every year

If colorectal cancer runs in your family, you may need to start earlier or have a different test, so let us know.

Eligible Albertans can order a free FIT kit online, or call Langdon Medical Family Practice at 403-936-5990 and we'll get you set up. 👍

Question of the week: What's the best advice your grandma gave you about staying healthy?

10/14/2026

🌸 A few minutes that can protect your health

Most cervical cancers can be prevented with regular screening. Here's what's recommended in Alberta:

✅ Ages 25 to 49: a Pap test every 3 years (start at 25, or 3 years after becoming sexually active, whichever is later)
✅ Ages 50 to 69: the new cervical screening test (an HPV test), usually every 5 years

You still need screening even if you've had the HPV vaccine, have been through menopause, or have been with the same partner for a long time.

Due or not sure? Book online at https://langdonmedical.janeapp.com/ or call 403-936-5990. 💜

🔍 The answer is in! Last week we played Two truths and a lie, and the lie was #2: 'You lose most of your body heat through your head.' Your head actually loses heat at about the same rate as any other uncovered part of your body. So yes, wear the toque, but don't forget the mitts and scarf too! 🧣 Did you guess right?
