🫚🍯🍶Tumeric Ginger Oxymel
How to make:
1. Clean & sterilize your vessel for 10min in boiling H2O
2. Prepare your ingredients:
- 4 tbsp powdered turmeric or 3 tbsp fresh turmeric peeled & grated. Fresh Tumeric is available at Kootenay Co-op in nelson
-1+ tsp cracked black pepper
- 2 tbsp fresh ginger, peeled & grated or 1 tbsp powdered ginger
- 125ml (1/2 cup) apple c***r vinegar
- 125ml (1/2 cup) unpasteurized honey
I like to grate the Tumeric and ginger, add the pepper and pour over the apple c***r vinager before adding the honey on top, it helps allow the vinager to pe*****te the roots better.
3. Cover mouth of jar with wax paper before putting on lid
4. Store in a dark area for 2-4 weeks, stir daily and burp every few days
5. After a few weeks, strain off liquid, date & label your clean bottle
6. There are a few ways to enjoy.
- take 1-2tsp as a shot everyday, helps digestion and blood glucose levels if you take before heaviest meal
- add to salad dressings
- my favourite is to add to a glass of soda or sparkling water for a refreshing bevy that taste like kombucha
Oxymels have been used for thousands of years. The word oxymel derives from ancient Greek words “oxys” (acid) and “meli” (honey). Oxymels can be highly customizable and are a easy and fun way to take medicinal herbs.
This particular combo:
Tumeric - helps with inflammation due to the curcumin compound. Its important to note, black pepper helps increase bioavailability of this compound, so you want to pair the 2 together.
Ginger - has warming properties. Aids in digestion, nausua and supports circulation
