Today is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The United Nations theme "Safe Homes for All", was uniquely shaped in direct consultation with individuals who have lived experience of poverty. Housing is a fundamental human right and doesn't exist in a vacuum; it shapes almost every aspect of life.

Securing safe housing is not just about providing shelter; it is about restoring dignity, protecting basic human rights, and breaking the cycle of poverty once and for all.

💚 Today is World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change. "Lived experience” means knowing mental illness or addiction from the inside, because you or someone close to you has been through it. People with lived experience are rarely the ones deciding how mental health services are built. They must be included. The theme calls on governments, health services, and communities to include people with lived experience in service planning.

Check in with someone you care about, and remember that your mental health matters as much as your physical health. If you or someone you know needs support, please call one of these numbers:

Today, October 4, is Sisters in Spirit, the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People.

Families, survivors and communities are gathering across the country to remember loved ones who never came home. The First Nations Health Ombudsperson Office stands in remembrance and solidarity with all who grieve.

We invite you to attend a vigil, light a candle, and take a moment to remember. Listen to the families and survivors, and honour their stories. Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls delivers 231 Calls for Justice. We join the call to fully implement them.

Across Turtle Island, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was a day to gather, honour, and remember. On September 30, the Indigenous Pharmacy Professionals of Canada (IPPC) webinar marking the day was disrupted by a racist attack.

The webinar was meant to be a space for honest conversation about racism, reconciliation, and experiences. Instead, it faced the very racism it set out to address. Racism isn't something we can look away from, and telling the truth must not come with a threat.

IPPC has called on allies to stand with them and keep the work of truth and reconciliation moving forward:

Share their original post, and help it reach more people. Name racism when you see it, whether it's online, at work, or in your community.

To everyone at IPPC: we stand with you.

September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day

Today we remember.

We remember the children who never came home. We remember what was taken from us: our families, our languages, our ceremonies, our identities. We survived a system that was built to erase us, and we are still here.

Surviving genocide is not a chapter that closed. Our children and grandchildren remember too. They grew up inside the silence, the grief, and the pain that we carried and did not always have words for. Intergenerational trauma is real, but so is intergenerational strength.

Every Survivor who tells their story is doing something extraordinary. It takes courage to speak about what was done; many were not believed, and many are still healing. Survivors speak so that the children who didn't make it home are remembered, and so our grandchildren know where they came from and how far we have come.

Our journey didn't end in the schools; we carried our languages, our teachings, and our love for our families and communities. We are the living proof, and we carry those who didn't come home. We remember them.

Today, you can honour Survivors by wearing orange, listening to their stories, and learning the truth.

Every Child Matters. Every Survivor matters. Every story matters.

Observed annually, World Patient Safety Day is on September 17 and is the official global health day recognized by the United Nations. Created in 2019 by the 72nd World Health Assembly via resolution WHA72.6 [Source: World Health Organization]

Each year highlights a critical area of concern in global healthcare safety, and the 2026 theme is "Safe care for noncommunicable diseases (NCD's)" under the slogan "Safe care for life!" The four main types of NCD's, according to WHO, are cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.

This year's theme is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de," which is a triennial theme for World Su***de Prevention Day covering 2024-2026 from the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP). The call to action is "Start the Conversation."

This year's theme reminds us of something simple but powerful: connection saves lives. This calls on everyone to challenge the harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations, shifting from silence and misunderstanding to openness, empathy, and support, so people feel able to speak up and seek help.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available, 24/7, free and confidential.

💛 Talk. Listen. Reach out. Every conversation matters.
