BREAST CANCER FAQs: Are all breast prostheses the same?

Not at all! There are different options for different needs, and the right one depends on how you plan to use it.

Soft leisure forms
Lightweight and soft, these can be a useful temporary option while waiting for reconstruction or during recovery, when appropriate. They're generally less durable than silicone forms and aren't intended to replace a daily-wear prosthesis.

Swim forms
If you enjoy swimming, spend time in chlorinated pools, or use hot tubs, a purpose-designed swim form is worth considering. These are made for water use and are designed to handle conditions that ordinary silicone forms may not be intended for.

Silicone breast forms
Designed to mimic the weight, shape and feel of a natural breast, these offer a more natural feel and balance under clothing. There are different shapes and styles, so finding the right fit matters.

You don't have to know which one you need before coming in. That's what we're here for.

We'll talk through how you want to use your form, what feels comfortable, and which options make sense for you. đź’—

BREAST CANCER FAQs: When can I get a breast prosthesis?

If you've had a mastectomy, you might be wondering when you can start looking at breast forms.

As a general guideline, we recommend waiting at least 6–8 weeks after surgery before being fitted for a permanent silicone breast prosthesis. Swelling and healing can affect the fit, so your own surgical team's advice should always come first.

But that doesn't mean you have to go without options in the meantime.

Depending on your needs and where you are in recovery, a soft leisure form may be a temporary option. Your healthcare team can advise when it's appropriate to wear one.

When you're ready for a fitting, we'll help you explore the options, talk through your questions, and find something that works for you.

There's no need to rush. The right time is the time that's right for your recovery. đź’—

BREAST CANCER FAQs: Do I need a compression bra?

It's a question we hear, and the answer isn't always straightforward.

A compression bra may be helpful for some people after breast surgery, but it's not automatically necessary for everyone. The right choice depends on the type of surgery you've had, your healing, and your surgeon's recommendations.

Before purchasing one, ask your surgical team whether compression is recommended for you, what kind of bra to look for, and when you're able to wear it.

And remember: a bra that's appropriate for recovery should fit properly. Tighter doesn't automatically mean better.

Not sure where to start? We're happy to help you understand your options and find a suitable fit once you've been cleared to wear one.

You don't have to figure everything out on your own. đź’—

Breast cancer doesn’t only affect the person who gets the diagnosis.

It affects the people beside her, too.

The partner who goes to every appointment.
The friend who sends the “thinking of you” text.
The sister who listens to the same worries for the tenth time.
The parent who is trying to be strong for their child.
The coworker who quietly picks up the slack.
The person who drives, waits, brings coffee, makes dinner, watches the kids, runs the errands — whatever needs doing.

Sometimes supporting someone means knowing exactly what to say.

Sometimes it means having absolutely no idea what to say, but showing up anyway.

And sometimes it means simply sitting beside someone and letting a difficult day be a difficult day.

To the people supporting someone through breast cancer:
we see you, too.

You don't have to have all the answers.
You don't have to make it better.
Being there matters.

Breast cancer can ask a lot of a person.

There are appointments. Decisions. Changes to your body. Days that are exhausting, frustrating, frightening or just plain unfair.

And through all of it, there are ordinary women doing extraordinarily hard things.

Not because they’re superheroes.
Not because they’re warriors.
Not because they’re supposed to be endlessly positive.

Because sometimes life puts something incredibly difficult in front of you, and you do what people have always done when faced with something hard:

You keep going.

You figure out the next thing.
You have good days and terrible ones.
You laugh when you can. You cry when you need to.
You ask for help. You give yourself a break.
And, little by little, you discover that you can do hard things.

To the women who have faced breast cancer, are facing it now, or are living with what came after: we see you.

Not as symbols. Not as pink ribbons.

Just as women.

And we’re proud to stand beside you. 💗
