Do you raise Clun Forests? What are your favorite traits of the breed? 👇

Clun Forest sheep are from the upland hill country between England and Wales. The first flock was imported into Nova Scotia, Canada in the 1970s.

Have you ever noticed that a sheep's pupils aren't round?

Those horizontal, rectangular pupils are one of nature's clever survival tools. They give sheep an incredibly wide field of view, helping them spot potential predators while keeping their heads down to graze.

Did you know this, or is this your first time hearing it?

It might seem like more grain would simply mean more energy—but in sheep, too much grain too quickly can create serious problems.

A sheep's rumen is full of microbes that help digest food. Sudden changes or too much grain can upset that balance, causing the rumen to become too acidic. This condition, called ruminal acidosis (grain overload), can quickly become a veterinary emergency.

It's one of the reasons producers introduce feed changes gradually and keep a close eye on their flock.

How do you transition sheep on to grain? 🐑🌾
