Meet eight future members of our home care team! IERHA is proud to partner with the Manitoba Métis Federation on a new Home Care Micro-Credential Program creating local pathways into health care careers while helping build home care capacity across our region.

The program launched in Stonewall in September with eight learners, four jointly sponsored by MMF and four sponsored by IERHA.

And there's a job waiting at the other end. Upon successfully completing their training, participants will transition into home care positions within the region, supporting clients and families in their own communities.

This locally developed “grow our own” approach is about investing in people, strengthening Indigenous participation in health care careers and building a sustainable workforce close to home.

Thank you to MMF and the Town of Stonewall for partnering with us to help bring this program to life, and congratulations to our first cohort as they get started! 👏

Earlier this year, youth in Grades 5 to 12 with a connection to the Interlake-Eastern region were invited to create artwork in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Two designs were selected: artwork by Jealliane, 15, from Ashern, and Marry, 13, from Winnipeg.

Jealliane’s piece honours residential school Survivors and remembers the children who never returned home, featuring Phyllis Webstad, founder of Orange Shirt Day, alongside the words “Every Child Matters.” Marry’s artwork tells the story of a girl who experienced residential school and, despite the trauma she endured, remains proud of her culture.

Both young artists have a parent who works in health care with Interlake-Eastern RHA. We’re grateful to Jealliane and Marry for sharing their creativity, perspectives and powerful messages with our region. 🧡

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Rosewood Lodge personal care home in Stonewall recently welcomed hoop dancer Brian Clyne and drummer Lawrence Spence for a special performance with residents, families and staff.

Brian shared the story of his own journey with hoop dancing, which began at age seven when his uncle taught him to dance. He also spoke about the healing that hoop dancing can provide and how the beat of the drum represents the heart of Mother Earth. The performance brought out plenty of emotion throughout the room.

“Some were dancing, some were smiling and clapping along and others were tearing up,” said recreation coordinator Sheryl Steinthorson-Taylor.

Thank you to Brian and Lawrence for sharing their time, talents and teachings with the Rosewood Lodge community. 🧡
