“I focus on those less fortunate than us. My family has hosted homeless youth through the 360°kids Nightstop program. In the past, we’ve provided a safe, warm bed for anywhere from one night to a year. While we can’t do that during COVID, we are donating hygiene products and warm clothes to these good kids who are just in a bad situation.”

We asked our colleagues to tell us what they’re doing to maintain good mental health this holiday season.
Here’s what Amanda Daley, our incomparable Head of Medical, had to share:
“The two things I most look forward to during the holidays are giving back to those in need in our community, and spending time with family.
“In my childhood, my father would take my sister and I shopping for toys to bring to the local Christmas toy drive. My husband and I have carried on the tradition; we explained to our kids that Santa can’t take care of all the gifts because he has to help some families with things like warm clothes and food––so we’re buying toys to add some joy. We also give to local food banks and snowsuit funds.
“I know for many people, myself included, the holidays can also be a very hectic time. Between work and holiday preparations, lots of us don’t make the time to take a break. A few years ago, I started taking a day off in early December to reconnect with my husband. In pre-COVID times, we’d visit a local spa, or day-trip to a neighbouring small town for lunch and some holiday shopping. We haven’t made our plans for this year yet, but it will definitely include masks, hand sanitizer, and supporting some local small businesses!”

The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others are just that – murder – perpetuated by a system of racial discrimination. We are disgusted and outraged by these acts of violence that occur too often.
The history of cannabis prohibition is also one that is inherently and systemically racist. It has disproportionately ruined millions of Black and Brown lives, torn families apart, incarcerated many, and created a cycle of recidivism in the criminal justice system – all while largely excluding people of colour from the opportunity to profit from the legal market.
We stand united with those who are fighting for social equality.
We value our relationship with Social Justice organization Cage Free Cannabis and continue to support National Expungement Week, to expand access to record clearing legal services in communities that have been disproportionately harmed by the war on drugs, as well as bail resources for protestors.
