Today, my son Silas was called to the Bar of Ontario through the Law Society of Ontario—a milestone that fills me with immense pride and gratitude.

Silas, watching you work toward this day has been one of the great privileges of being your father. I have seen your determination, your growth, and the effort behind this achievement. It is hard to put into words what it means to see you begin this next chapter.

You now enter a profession with the responsibility to advocate for others, protect their rights, and help them navigate some of life’s most difficult moments. May you carry that responsibility with integrity, compassion, and courage.

You have earned an opportunity to build a rewarding life, and I hope it brings you purpose, security, and the freedom to enjoy the people and experiences you love.

Qualifications:

Today was one of the most special and emotional days of my life as a father.

Watching Silas and Benjamin cross the stage at Lakehead University for their convocation filled me with pride beyond words.

Silas graduated with his Degree in Law, including a subspecialty in Aboriginal & Indigenous Law.
Benjamin graduated with an Honours BSc in Computer Science and will soon begin the next chapter of his journey in law school.

What made today even more meaningful was realizing that almost 26 years ago to the day, I stood on that very same stage receiving my own degree.

Life has a remarkable way of coming full circle.

To see my sons achieve this milestone through hard work, resilience, character, and determination is something I will never forget.

Boys, I could not be prouder of the men you have become. Your futures are incredibly bright, but more importantly, you are kind, grounded, and thoughtful human beings.

Congratulations Silas and Ben.
Dad loves you both very much.
