When Skin & Mind Meet | The Hälsa Journal
Last night, I attended a workshop on psychodermatology — a field of healthcare that explores the relationship between our skin, nervous system, and emotional wellbeing.
Something the presenter said really stayed with me. He spoke about grieving the body you thought you would have, rather than the one you’re living in.
And I thought, what a powerful way to describe something we don’t often talk about when it comes to chronic skin conditions.
Because eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and acne can affect so much more than the skin itself.
The interrupted sleep. The clothes you avoid wearing. The social plans you cancel. The frustration of unpredictable flare-ups. The emotional exhaustion of trying to find something that works.
And there’s research behind this connection.
Psychodermatology recognizes that our skin can influence our emotional wellbeing, just as stress and our nervous system can influence how our skin functions.
This is something I explore at Hälsa Fusion through a complementary, whole-body approach — incorporating gentle therapeutic touch, nervous-system support, skin barrier care, nutrition, and the internal patterns that may be contributing to skin concerns.
I’ve explored this further in my latest Hälsa Journal, including the research behind psychodermatology and how it connects with the work I do at Hälsa.
