Highlights in the reel, reality in the caption 🌝 I had to dig deep for the energy, patience and enthusiasm to show up for my boys this week. John’s been out of town again and I was wondering if I bit off a bit more than I could chew with homeschooling both boys + still working + solo parenting while John’s gone half the month.

Luckily I have a few friends I’m homeschooling with & we don’t normally get together Mondays but I sent an SOS “I need adult company” and we had a wonderful couple of days together. Community is everything!!! Asking for help is hard but necessary.

We had the best time mushroom foraging, doing a pumpkin investigation, eating meals together and watching our boys learn and play. 🧠

As always I promised to be honest about this journey! If you’re considering homeschooling build a community first. The kids need it but so do us moms! ✊🏻

New hack to get downtime, say “come upstairs when you guys are done your game and we’ll do our reading lesson” 🤓 this gave me an hour to myself 😂 Reading has been our more challenging subject lately so I took a break from our curriculum & brought in more variety today and it went well, we especially love Lovevery reading games!

This week our theme is “My Family & My World” and we have lots of fan activities planned! 🌎

Week One done, and I have thoughts! 🙃 I promise not to be one of those homeschooling accounts that makes it seem peaceful and perfect all the time, I’ve always kept it real so let’s talk about it.

The positives: slow unrushed mornings 🌞, days spent with friends, tons of time in nature, minimal screens, the ability to follow their interests and learn at their pace, my boys forming the strongest bond, being there to help them navigate challenges (socially & academically) and the most important to me - so much time together.

The challenges: I have veeeery limited downtime (see: none), I’m still working and work around my husband’s schedule so when I’m not with kids or working I’m cleaning, cooking and prepping for lessons. While we have way more time with our kids we have less time as a family of 4 and will have to prioritize scheduling that in. With me working less we also have to be strict with our budget. I’m also learning how to help my 5 year old when he’s frustrated or things aren’t coming easily, it’s a learning curve for both of us!

I think socializing is so important for my boys (with lots of ages and groups of people, not just other 5 year olds) so we’ve joined homeschool groups, made our own little co-op and are doing more extracurriculars than we’ve done in the past to meet those needs. I also know I need to be with other adults so this fills that cup for me too! I’m figuring out the right amount of time out and about and time at home. Oh and it’s a far drive for us 😅.

Right now, I feel like I’ve absolutely made the right choice, buuut there’s no question that there are sacrifices too. I’ve given myself and my son permission to change our minds at any point if it’s not working for us. 🩷

Have you ever thought of homeschooling or tried it? Tips? Questions?

I’m an open book 📖!

I’ve been playing around with the idea of homeschooling and have been trying it this summer with my 5 year old to see if it’s a good fit. There are so many beautiful, peaceful, rewarding moments and it also feels like it overextends me at times, which I never want them to feel.

It’s crunch time now with school starting next week 😅.

Have you done it? Thought about it? Think I’m crazy?!

POV: you’re a mom trying to eat well but navigating meals that help you reach your goals AND your kids will eat too is hard. Plus meal planning is one more task on a mountain of to dos.

I see you 👀 (I am you!)

I spend hours creating meal plans for my family each week that are easy to prep, simple to modify for different preferences (the one child who won’t eat cheese and the one who wants cheese on everything 🥴) and ensure we’re all getting what we need.

And now I’m sharing them!

Comment “YUM” and I’ll send you the link. 💗

We’re at the start of forest fire season in Ontario 💔. I was adding ingredients to my grocery list to help support the health of my family, and thought it would be helpful to share.

I’m focusing on foods that support our body’s natural detoxification pathways, decrease inflammation and provide tons of antioxidants to combat the pollutants in the air.

Try to include as many unprocessed foods as possible with an emphasis on brightly coloured fruits and vegetables. 🍓🫐🥦🍊🍋

We also have air purifiers running constantly and try to stay inside on days the smoke is really bad.

Let’s take care of our body’s while we work to take better care of our 🌍.
