Some of you remember Dr. Christina from years ago when she started working with us at the clinic. Well, after four years of studies at CCNM and another year doing clinical rounds she is ready and can’t wait to start her career with us.
Her areas of interest are the Mind-gut-skin connection. Women’s health especially hormonal issues and pediatrics.
Dr. Christina’s hours is as follows:
Monday 10am to 6pm
Wednesday 10am to 6pm
Saturday 9am to 2pm

This weekend we had the pleasure of hosting our annual Women’s Wellness Day for a group of women at our practice. While we all try to maintain a healthy and preventative lifestyle, these women always commit to learning new and alternative methods to keeping their bodies functioning optimally!
We are thrilled to now offer Naturopathic Medicine with Dr. Christina Appleton who taught us how acupuncture on the face would be beneficial to keeping our skin looking healthy and decreasing those fine lines.
Jacki was ready to demonstrate how amazing it feels to have someone work on your feet with Reflexology. Dr. Sylvia also uses cupping to help decrease any inflammation and tight sore muscles to relax. We have also added Red Light Therapy to help anyone who would like to speed up healing from muscular aches and pains or would like to boost their energy or even help sleep a little better. We also realize that working out sometimes at a gym isn’t for everyone, so dancing 💃 specifically Salsa, demonstrated and taught by Gorete is a fantastic way to keep moving and get your heart rate up and strengthen our core and legs and buttock muscles!😊😅

Have you seen the sun?!
Being outdoors has some tremendous healing properties. But the sun is especially important when we are talking about prevention.
—Just 15 minutes of sunlight allows the body to increase the production of Vitamin D. Which will help with maintaining your bone health and immune health.
—The amount of sunlight you see will also help you prevent those sleepless nights. During the dark days of winter get out and make sure you are soaking up the rays to help set your circadian rhythm by regulating the levels of seratonin and melatonin.
—the sun can also help signal your brain 🧠 to be alert. The brain is being activated and allowing you to be more energized as you are outdoors and preventing the afternoon slump and the need for more caffeine. ☕️

Are your teens and children using the right type of back pack?
The wrong back pack and wearing it incorrectly can cause issues later on in life like:
Muscle soreness
Musculoskeletal pain
Fatigue
Respiratory issues
Make sure they make these small changes to help them:
Decrease the amount of stuff in it to be no more than 10% of their body weight.
They are not carrying it for long distances.
They decrease the amount t of time with it on their back. So if standing at the bus stop, they take it off for a few minutes to rest.
There is not inadequate distribution of weight in the back pack, and items are mot poorly placed.
What else can you do:
Pick one that fits your child. Not too small or not too big.
Padding- across the back and on the shoulder straps
Breathable materials not leather (heavier especially if it rains!)
Hip straps- when they are older and carrying laptops.
Place heaviest item in back.
Never carrying with one shoulder strap only!

Feeling the cold? How is your body reacting to it?! Well, it is true that some of us will complain more of the musculoskeletal pains in the winter months. Why? Not enough activity. Staying indoors more eating more foods that can cause inflammation Decrease of circulation because blood vessel constriction making your joints more prone to stiffness But have you looked at the typical “winter slouch” posture? -Head down -shoulders turned in or -shoulders hunched up towards your ears! All this can influence and cause postural stress on your joints and aggravate them even more. Make sure you dress warm and still get out for some daily fresh air. Find activities indoors that will keep you active and happy. Hydrate as much as you would in the summer and keep eating a variety of good wholesome foods or try to eat more of an anti inflammatory diet. Since most of us are on our devices all day long, it’s a good idea to take a break and just give your hands and wrists some ❤️ love! Try doing some figure 8’s with your wrists and stretch your forearms. Do the same for your ankles as you sit at your desk. Then get up and stretch those calves. As you do all this remember when something doesn’t feel right and doesn’t want to move, you might need to get checked.
