The practice of Osteopathy emphasizes the importance of the correct structure and mobility of the tissues in order to improve the function of the whole body. This manual diagnostic and therapeutic system is based on the premise that the primary role of the therapist is to facilitate the body’s inherent ability to self-regulate and self-heal. It was founded by an American physician, Dr. Andrew Tayl

or Still, in 1874. Since then, it has established itself as an integral part of health care in the US, Europe and Canada. Osteopathic philosophy maintains that the structure and function of the body are interconnected: problems in one organ affect other organ systems. For this reason, Osteopaths assess and treat the body as a whole, recognizing even the smallest, localized deviations as obstacles to the healthy functioning of the entire body.

Annex Osteopathy is patient oriented and is practised according the best available evidence.

Patient Oriented means that every treatment starts with discussion of your progress, goals and what can be done to help you in your health journey. Every manual technique or post treatment exercise is adapted to your needs. If your goals is to have fun gardening without worrying about your back, then the treatment will include addressing tissues responsible for having strong back in awkward kneeling positions. And your exercises will address movements that make you stronger when lifting cumbersome bags of soil. Don’t worry about dumbbells and therabands, you will be exercising with packs of rice before moving into carrying 40 lb bags of soil. But if you need to get stronger and play your favourite sport, then we will make sure that you leave treatment ready to have fun and play. And your conditioning will include relevant stretches and resistance training.

Best Available Evidence means that we will choose treatment techniques that have the most chance of helping you. For example, if the muscles are rigid and not letting the body move through the full range of motion, then will use appropriate myofascial release and joint mobilizations that have been shown to relax the muscles, and then we will make sure that you safely move through the full range of movement to help your nervous system adapt and integrate the improved function.

On April 22, 2022, the Ontario Government announced an extension of mask mandates in health care settings, until June 11, 2022.
Ontario Public Health considers Osteopathic clinic a heath care setting, so all of us (including our clients) are still obligated to wear masks within the clinic. Please respect the health care rules so that all of us can have safe and effective osteopathic care.

Vaccines, is a topic that is infamous for its heated and emotionally charged debates. Unfortunately, both sides of the discussion employ dubious unscientific arguments. Here is an example of the pro-vaccines blog entry published by no other than New England Journal of Medicine. Anybody care to critique this one? You will find any possible logical fallacy here. But by NEJM? WTF?

Osteopathy explained Part1

“If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't understand it yourself.” - Albert Einstein. Recently, I got invited to my 6 year old son's class to give a little talk about what I do at work. Imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop: "Who is your daddy and what does he do?". You got t…

Very interesting case where very large arachnoid cyst full of CSF was completely asymptomatic.
Do you think an osteopath with good cranial skills would be able to feel it?

A 22-year-old man presented after a motor vehicle collision in which his head struck the windshield of a bus. A CT scan showed an incidental finding of grossly dilated occipital and temporal horns of the right lateral ventricle. MRI confirmed the presence of a large cystic lesion. http://nej.md/1UBKVTX

The Science Behind Posture and How It Affects Your Brain

Now, that's interesting. Thank you for sharing, Julia Garro

I'll confess up front: I have terrible posture. It's been bad since I was in high school at least, and probably for even longer than that.
