Want to support your brain health? Start with what’s on your plate.
There’s no magic pill or single “superfood” that can prevent cognitive decline. But research consistently shows that a healthy, balanced diet can help protect brain function as we age.
Here are five foods linked to better cognitive health:
🥬 Leafy Greens – Spinach, kale, broccoli, and other greens are packed with nutrients like vitamin K, folate, and lutein that may help slow cognitive decline.
🐟 Fatty Fish – Salmon, cod, tuna, and po***ck provide omega-3 fatty acids, which support brain health and may help reduce the risk of cognitive impairment. If you’re not a fan of fish, consider taking an omega-3 supplement. Always read the label carefully and choose a product that has undergone third-party testing.
🫐 Berries – Rich in flavonoids, blueberries and strawberries have been associated with improved memory and slower age-related cognitive decline. A study conducted by researchers at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital found that women who consumed two or more servings of strawberries and blueberries weekly experienced a delay in memory decline of up to 2.5 years.
☕ Tea & Coffee – Your morning cup may do more than boost your energy. A study published in The Journal of Nutrition found that participants with higher caffeine consumption scored better on mental function tests. In another study at Johns Hopkins University, participants who consumed caffeine were better able to remember images they had studied the previous day compared to those who took a placebo.
🌰 Walnuts – A great source of healthy fats and plant-based omega-3s, walnuts have been linked to better cognitive performance and overall brain health. A study from UCLA found a link between higher walnut consumption and improved cognitive test scores.
Small, consistent nutrition choices today can have a lasting impact on your cognitive health tomorrow.
