Looking for some healthy food swaps? I’ve got you covered 😊

Here are some of my favourite ways to crowd out some of those less healthy foods with ones that are simple, nourishing and delicious.

🌱 water or herbal infusions. My favourite is strawberry & mint or steeping hibiscus tea over ice for a refreshing summer drink.
🌱 kale chips with olive oil, sea salt & chili flakes hit the spot if you’re looking for a salty and spicy treat. You can also season and roast chickpeas.
🌱 cauliflower rice makes a great base for any dish. I love using it in stir fry’s with lots of veggies, ginger and shrimp. Cauliflower also supports estrogen metabolism with its DIM properties so it has the added bonus of hormone support.
🌱 dates & almond butter satisfy and sugar craving. Dates are high in fructose so you probably will feel quite satiated after just a few. Adding in some nut butter is a great option for more fiber, protein and healthy fats.

What to look out for on food labels:
πŸͺ sugar content
🍍 fiber content
πŸ•saturated fats from processed oils like sunflower, canola & corn
🍫 preservatives, fillers or ingredients you can’t pronounce

My guiding rule is I try to get food as close to how it is in nature. Even if a snack is organic, if it comes in a box or foil package, it likely is still highly processed and lacking key nutrients.

🌸 Motherhood 🌸 I could have never prepared for the depths it has taken me to. Thank you for choosing me to be your mama - you are my greatest gift and my ultimate teacher. I learn from you every day and still cannot believe I get to experience this life with you.

In the thick of postpartum when sleep was a distant memory and tears were rolling down my face daily, I would think to myself β€˜how can I do this? How come no one told me it was this hard?’. I’d then look into your eyes and see a whole lifetime of memories yet to be created and knew that everything was going to be ok. It felt like some bigger maternal force was guiding me with gentle hands.

Motherhood is constantly being stretched to your limits, while feeling all emotions at once. It’s holding the extremes of the human experience in one vessel.

Becoming a mom has taught me more about myself than any self help book. It is the ultimate act of selflessness and just when you feel like you can’t pour any more from an empty cup, you somehow access an untapped source of strength you didn’t know you had.

I don’t think I will ever look at another mother the same way again.

To all the moms, soon to be moms, those who wish to be moms, caregivers, family and partners taking care of and raising children - you are my inspiration every day 🀍

Things I wish I knew that no one told me about postpartum.

It is such a wild, challenging and beautiful time and your body is going through so much physically, emotionally and hormonally.

Your body will probably not feel like your own for quite some time and that’s ok. You might have loose skin and stretch marks in places where you don’t want, and that’s ok. What I keep reminding myself is that we have our whole lives to workout and get back into your routines. Postpartum is a season that asks us to slow down more than we are comfortable with and take each day at a time.

It tests & stretches you more than you can imagine, but it can be one of the most beautiful and transformative experiences of your life. Give yourself compassion and space to become this new version of yourself 🀍 motherhood is always evolving.

Ps. for those of you in the postpartum phase like me, it’s ok to be so grateful for what your body can do, and not love the way it looks right now. The two can exist simultaneously.

I’m not a huge fan of social media trends but I’m loving this one about sharing honest truths ❀️ here’s some of my deeply personal fears and thoughts that I struggle with currently.

My intention with sharing this is to make others feel less alone and shine a light on other aspects of my life that aren’t just the social media highlight reel.

Would love to hear some of yours either in the comments or a personal message πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸ»

The emergence of the mother 🌸

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here …
I’ve been keeping my pregnancy private and haven’t felt called to share my experience in real time. It has been one of the most challenging yet beautiful experiences of my life that I couldn’t really put into words until now.

As I sit here somewhere in-between the mother and maiden waiting for this new version of myself to emerge, I feel old parts of myself fading away.

Things that used to worry me, I no longer have have the energy for. Things that seemed important then no longer take up space now.

This journey has asked me to slow down, let go of expectations and trust the intelligence of my body on a whole new level.

It has allowed me space to cultivate deep compassion for myself and my body as I watch it change and adapt to growing new life.

It’s exciting, exhausting, terrifying and magical all at the same time and a constant reminder of how powerful the female body is.

More than anything, pregnancy has asked me to surrender to the unknown more than ever before and trust in something bigger than myself.

As I wait here with so much excitement, anticipation and a bit of apprehension of what’s to come, I wouldn’t change my experience for the world. Thank you for allowing me to be your first home, we can’t wait to meet you earth side very soon ❀️

As humans, our main source of energy is carbohydrates (glucose) followed by fat. Protein is primarily used to repair and rebuild muscle tissue (although it can be used for energy when glucose stores are low).

π‘·π’“π’π’•π’†π’Šπ’ 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑𝒔 π’˜π’Šπ’•π’‰:

➑️ the formation, growth and repair of tissue
➑️ building healthy hair, skin and nails
➑️ making almost all of the body’s enzymes, neurotransmitters & antibodies
➑️ hormone production (adrenaline & insulin)
➑️ balancing blood sugar
➑️ regulating appetite & promoting feeling of fullness

πŸ’ͺ🏻 Protein is broken down in the body into amino acids and your body needs 20 amino acids to work optimally. Nine of them are called β€˜essential amino acids’, which means that you can’t make them on your own so need to get them from your diet.

🐠 High quality animal-based foods (meat, poultry, eggs, dairy) are good sources of protein because they contain all nine essential amino acids. Animal proteins also score higher when it comes to digestibility of amino acids in the large intestine versus plant proteins.

🌱 Most plant-based proteins have lower amounts of these essential amino acids per serving. This is why if you are plant-based it’s super important to be mindful of getting enough amino acids in your diet by eating a variety of complete proteins like; quinoa, tofu, h**p, spirulina, buckwheat, chia, beans etc.

Protein supports so many functions in the body and as you age, you need even more of it to maintain muscle mass. To get the most out of your protein consumption, eating a consistent amount at each meal versus all at once will support muscle recovery, blood sugar, weight loss and help curb cravings.

What is your take on protein and protein sources?

πŸ‘‰πŸ» send me a message to find out how much protein you should be consuming daily!

Feeling a little on edge? Here are some of my favourite herbs to support anxiety and help calm your nervous system.

🌿 my favourite way to use lavender and camomile is in a bath or a tea.

🌿 valerian root is great in tincture form or tea as well.

🌿 passionflower is my personal favourite. I love ’s passionflower supplement for sleep and stress relief.

🌿 Kava is a potent herb that can create a calming effect in the body. Research is also being done on its potential benefits in treating certain types of cancer.

🌿 Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb typically used in powder form to help the body adapt to stress. I love to add it into my morning smoothies or a warm drink.
