🍝 Did you know cooling your pasta could change how your body responds to it? 👀
As a PCOS/PMOS + weight loss dietitian, I’m all about simple nutrition strategies that work with your body, not against it. 🤍
Here’s the science 👇🏼
When pasta is cooked and then cooled in the fridge, some of its starch undergoes a process called starch retrogradation, creating more resistant starch.
✨ Why does this matter?
🩸 Blood sugar support: Resistant starch is digested less readily in the small intestine, which may help reduce the post-meal blood sugar response. Small human studies have found promising results with cooled and reheated pasta.
🦠 Gut health: Resistant starch travels to the large intestine, where gut bacteria ferment it to produce short-chain fatty acids, including butyrate, which helps support the gut lining.
💗 PCOS nutrition: Since insulin resistance is common in PCOS, practical strategies that may support blood sugar management can be helpful as part of your overall nutrition approach.
🍝 How to try it: 1️⃣ Cook your pasta until al dente. 2️⃣ Cool it promptly and refrigerate it. 3️⃣ Enjoy it cold or reheat it thoroughly the next day. 4️⃣ Pair it with protein, fibre-rich veggies and healthy fats for a balanced meal.
And remember: you don’t need to cut out carbs to manage PCOS/PMOS or lose weight. 🙅🏻♀️
DISCLAIMER : Cooling pasta isn’t a magic fix. 🍝🤍
There’s so much more that goes into managing your PCOS/ PMOS symptoms and supporting weight loss (if that’s your goal!).
It’s about understanding YOUR body, YOUR labs, including your personalized calorie and macronutrient needs,, building balanced meals, supporting blood sugar regulation, regulating your nervous system and making sustainable lifestyle changes that fit your life.
✨ Think nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and consistency and not just one food hack.
