It's a common belief that the progestin and estrogen that you receive in hormonal birth control are the same as your body's estrogen and progesterone, but it's not.

It's also a common belief that poor hormonal function and low hormonal levels which are brought up to normal physiological ranges with hormones that are bio-identical to your body's hormones are somehow bad...

Most of it comes from misinformation and providers who are not adequately trained on how to utilize hormone replacement in their patients.

Even worse, most people, men and women are told that their hormones are "fine" and are not and are experiencing the symptoms and side effects of hormonal function that slip through the cracks of diagnosis, never getting the proper care they need.

What is histamine?

It's a normal creation by our body used to run many reactions like allergies, digestion, and immunity.

But what happens if we start developing in our histamine-managing systems?

What happens if our immune system becomes overactive in releasing histamines?

What happens if our mast cells become so overactive that they continue to degranulate and release histamine into our body without control? (Known as MCAS)

Histamine and other amines like tyramine can be a big problem for some people and one of the most common symptoms is migraines and headaches.

They even did a study and found that people with migraines had lower levels of DAO or diamine oxidase which is an enzyme that helps to break down histamine and tyramine in the body to prevent it from causing problems.

But this may not be everyone's problem, and this problem may be secondary to something that actually is a big problem for our immune system causing our immune system to go on overdrive.

Many migraineurs find taking antihistamines to be very helpful and while relief is welcome, long-term use of antihistamines may be a risk factor for neurological conditions like dementia.

This means we want to be careful with bandaid fixes which allow us to ignore a deeper problem that may be going on below the surface.

Always try to look at the root of the problem and use managing strategies only as needed.

Whenever I ask someone what they think the dominant s*x hormone for women is, they ALWAYS say estrogen...

And estrogen is a massive player along with progesterone, especially at certain times of their cycle and pregnancy.

But testosterone is still a magnitude higher and consistent ALL throughout their cycle.

Testosterone is an incredible brain-supporting, inflammation-fighting, regenerative and feel-good hormone.

We want to feed and support our production of testosterone because it fights many of the harder aspects of our lives like aging and recovery.

One of your most important physiological tissues, especially if you want to feel and function well into your later years, is testosterone.

Do you want a really good marker of how healthy and vital you are?

Look at your testosterone.

But there is a caveat here, like anything health related....

Testosterone that comes from conditions and diseases(like pcos) is not the same as the testosterone that is created from your lifestyle.

What supports healthy testosterone?

Rest

What's the best way to get our vitamins and minerals?

From our food!

But if we have severe deficiencies then our food is likely not enough.

Our metabolism and the energy needed for every one of our cells to function is super nutrient intensive.

When we want to ask more from our bodies, like during times of stress, we need to offer our bodies more, in terms of nutrition.

But we don't just need more energy that comes from our proteins, fats, and carbohydrates....

We also need the micronutrients that allow us to use that energy, and build and recycle our tissues.

The problem is that we all have varying requirements for these nutrients, with some of us experiencing 10-100x higher requirements (I'm looking at my chronic warriors).

If your healthcare providers are not actively screening your mental, emotional, dietary, and lifestyle behaviors, you simply have a dealer.

Your body is speaking and telling you exactly where to look and what to change, it screams through the symptoms it creates, from pain to depression to digestion.

If after a healthcare appointment, you are no better at listening and responding to those signs, then you have been done a disservice.

I don't want to tell you all of your appointments have been a waste, but if you are honest with yourself then you can be the one to do so.

What you feed will breed.

Unclench your jaw, loosen your face, drop your shoulders, and release your stomach.

Thoughts and emotions are held in our bodies, so make sure to shake them out regularly.

If that is too hard, then make sure to shake them out 3 times a day.

The more engrained an unhealthy patten is, the more vigilant you should be about not letting it stay with you.

Do not let your unresolved emotions spoil and poison inside you.

Choose what you want to be and what in your life you want to see.

Then program yourself with it.

You are constantly running on programs that were set in your past, and the more you have run them the easier it is for them to run.

So choose the new thoughts, feelings, actions, and programs you want to run

And actively and consciously engage in them until they become like every other thought feeling and action you have.

Fight for your state, it is the only thing you actually have and the only thing you can use to affect yourself and those around you.

It's a very common and normal experience for me to meet with clients who simply do not believe that they can heal, overcome their circumstances, and be free of pain and symptoms.

If you adopted the reductionist allopathic model of medicine, your beliefs may lead you to think this is the case with your own health.

But this is only one way of understanding health and illness.

The result? Look at the skyrocketing rates of chronic diseases today and you have all the proof you need that this system does not work.

Even worse, this system has become so profitable and corporatized that it is against shareholder interests to cure disease, since the management of disease is so much more lucrative.

Ask anyone that is stuck inside of the insurance-based healthcare system how effective their solutions are for fatigue, hormones, obesity, pain, or immune issues...

Not only is it doing all of us a disservice as human beings who have survived millennia in the most apocalyptic conditions known to man...

But it is doing a disservice to you, as an individual that is trying to find answers to your health, answers that allow you to stop triggering, to stop paining, and to stop being chronic.

You cannot heal, and you cannot even begin to heal, if you do not believe in your ability to do so.

You must not only believe in your ability to heal, but you must believe in the ability for YOU to be the effector of change in your own life.

What is health and healing? It is finding the belief in yourself again.

The personal care product industry is largely unregulated and many of the substances used are intended for utility over health outcomes.

The number of synthetic, toxic, and endocrine-disrupting compounds finding their way into our bodies and affecting our health continues to grow.

Many of these can be triggers or contributors to the high trigger levels that may provoke headaches or migraines.

In this article, I cover 5 commonly used products we have data showing they may have problematic compounds as well as some of the specific compounds like phthalates that we want to avoid.

What personal care products trigger you? Fragrance used to be horrible for me and walking by the cleaning products aisle in the grocery store was a death sentence.

Our gut and brain are connected through the nervous system, which sends electrical signals between the two, as well as the circulatory system, which is connected by blood and includes things like hormones and inflammatory messengers.

Our gut is actually sending far more information to the brain, than the brain is sending to the gut. This is because the brain needs to know what is going on in the gut at all times.

Our gut is where the vast majority of serotonin in our body is made and where the majority of our immune system lies.

This area is highly policed because so many things can go wrong and because we are constantly interacting with the outside world through this long tube.

If we start having issues here like indigestion, food sensitivities, acute or chronic infections, or autoimmune reactions, this area can become a major source of inflammation.

This inflammation can become chronic and persistent adding to our trigger levels and resulting in our bodies remaining on the edge of trigger no matter what other triggers we try to avoid.

The more our body inflames, the more the nervous system becomes sensitized to inflammation and the easier it can become for our body to go down the inflammation and pain pathways.

Central pain sensitization takes place because our body tries to get efficient at whatever it is doing so it takes less effort, working against us when we are chronically paining.

So the gut has to be addressed. Digestion has to become resilient. Immunity needs to be rebuilt and balanced.

Removing dietary triggers may just be the first step to recovering a healthy gut that isn't keeping our brain on edge.

Because of the gut-brain connection, rebuilding strong brain function can be just as important to correcting function in the gut.

Autoimmunity is a process by which the safety mechanisms in our immune system break down, causing the body to accidentally begin targeting its own tissue and labeling it as dangerous, causing the immune system to attack.

The cerebellum is the brain region associated with proprioception and balance so if this area becomes targetted by the immune system, inflammation can occur and disrupt the normal functioning of our vestibular systems, causing us to experience all kinds of dizziness-type symptoms.

Then, every time the immune system flares up, so will our dizziness symptoms.

The solution?

Get into remission and stay there.

Find your migraine triggers, find your immune triggers, and work to develop a strong and resilient immune system.

This doesn't happen overnight because it didn't break down overnight either.

There will be bumps in the road and flares will come but by knowing it is our immune system that is acting up, we can equip ourselves with tools to help calm it and restore its integrity.

Now the question is, what caused the immune system to break down? How may have life played into the breakdown of the dozens of failsafe mechanisms our immune system has to prevent targeting itself?

There are SO many incredible supplements available to us for all kinds of different pains and ills.

But we are all hyper unique and the way one person responds with one issue and one stimulus may be completely different to a different person with the "same" issue and same stimulus.

We have to understand what works for us and often times this involves getting deeper down into the roots of what is making our body and brain scream.

Just like medications, there are precautions and side effects with supplements and natural substances.

Mold is no joke.

Both inside and outside of our bodies.

These are some of the most powerful organisms in existence and they are the primary decomposers in the cycle of life.

When they start overgrowing in our environment they can release hundreds of different neuro and endocrine toxins, causing untold damage to every system in our body.

These substances are meant to help them spread and decompose other organisms, leaving us susceptible and our immune systems overwhelmed.

We shouldnt have any tolerance for allowing musty or moldy smells in our environment, all sources of water and humidity should be tightly controlled so that they do not allow these organisms to overgrow and start releasing their chemicals into the air.

Those with mold poisoning wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy.

But there is a lot we can do about it, inside and outside of ourselves and we should make every effort to do so.

In our environment we want to maintain below 50% humidity and regularly wipe all surfaces as well as reduce any moisture sources or mold exposed materials. Any spotting should be quickly removed and renovated in the case of porous materials.

We want to minimize our exposure to environmental molds before our body becomes susceptible. This may lead to the molds colonizing the inside of us creating acute symptoms like:
- Sinus infections
- Candida infections
- Thrush
- Athletes foot
- Ring worm
And much more, these guys all come together and support the others in colonizing a compromised immune system.

We have never in our evolutionary history been exposed to so many synthetic chemicals that are so foreign to our bodies and immune systems.

Our bodies only have a few ways of dealing with an almost limitless number of aggressors.

Some hurt our nervous system, others destroy our reproductive system, and most altering signalling in our hormonal system.

The source of these have largely been industry and the result of us extracting and altering molecules from deep beneath the earth.

Petroleum products like plastics and rubbers are notorious because they have invaded every area of our lives from the tools we use to cook and store food, to the substances we put on our skin and in our environment.

We know many of these, even in very small doses, may be endocrine disruptors, carcinogenic, mutagenic, and autoimmune stimulating...

But we have NO idea what they do when they all present together in our bodies.

Like any migraineur knows, the laundry and household cleaners section of the supermarket is a recipe for pain.

The best bet is to educate ourselves and remove each and every exposure possible, often resorting to more natural substances as substitutes.

Your symptoms and how you function are major signs pointing in the right direction of where you should focus on healing.

Do you have issues with fasting?

Never before in the history of our evolution could we afford to not be able to fast.

If every time we fasted it crippled us, we wouldn't have made it this far.

This brings a huge focus to our metabolic system and the need to repair it.

Inability to fast may be common, but it is not normal.

This is one of THE most common triggers and no surprise with only 12% of our population being metabolically healthy.

Can we really separate ourselves from our environment?

Where does the air end and where do we begin? Is any part of our bodies really ours?

To move forward with our society, we need to come to understand all of the things around us as ourselves, because they are.

We can't expect to dump metals, hormones, and pharmaceuticals into water and then not have it circulated back into ourselves.

We can't expect to make our outer world uglier and expect to have a beautiful inner one.

Where do we begin cleaning it up?

In our food, water, and self care products. Then our home and those businesses we choose to support that provide better environmental solutions.

The exposure to plastics, rubbers, metals, chemicals and drugs needs to be curbed while we support the bodies waste disposal systems in doing what they're made for.

What can you be grateful for?
