Have you ever requested wheelchair assistance at the airport?

We are interested to hear about your experiences and viewpoints on this matter.

The Algonquin College Human-Centred Design Lab invites you to participate in a survey exploring the gaps hindering the effective and timely implementation of wheelchair assistance from Canadian Airlines. This research study focuses on ambulatory wheelchair users— individuals who are capable of walking independently for short distances but need a wheelchair to travel longer distances due to limitations in stamina, pain, or other physical conditions— specifically those who have previously used wheelchair assistance services from Canadian airlines.

Many individuals face delays and inefficiencies when requesting wheelchair assistance, leading to safety concerns and increased accidents and injuries. Therefore, we are surveying to help understand the personal experiences of people who may fall into this category and identify ways to help them.

To participate, click here: https://forms.gle/vCZGMhzapQpEA9sB7
Survey closes June 10th.

Thank you for your time and effort!

: Make your communications inclusive and accessible by captioning your videos. 🖥

By 2025, videos are projected to make up 82% of all consumer internet traffic and video streaming is expected to represent 91% of worldwide internet traffic. Now more than ever, ensuring video accessibility is crucial because a large portion of online video content remains inaccessible, excluding individuals with disabilities.

Enhancing video accessibility with closed captions and descriptive text offers individuals with disabilities a similar content experience to those without, fostering a more inclusive and welcoming online community.

Red Shirt Day of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion is a day when people across Canada come together and wear red to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for disabled people and their families, celebrate the achievements of disabled Canadians, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society.

Red Shirt Day™ is an Easter Seals initiative and was first celebrated in 2019. It takes place on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week each year.

Anyone can take part in Red Shirt Day. Put on your favourite red shirt, take some photos and make a pledge to help improve accessibility and inclusion in your community. Then post your photos and your pledge on social media with the hashtags.

- Ensure public transportation has announcements for every stop to assist those with visual challenges.

Public transit provides an essential service for many people, some of whom are among the most vulnerable in our society. Having access to accessible transportation for persons with disabilities is a human right that reflects the fundamental principles of equality, inclusion, and dignity. 🚍

It is imperative for public transport services to announce stops on the bus and the train, as well as to identify bus, subway, and/or train routes at stops that serve more than one route. Stop and route identification announcements have great value for many riders with disabilities. Unfortunately, it has been challenging for many transit agencies to fully implement these requirements.

Thankfully, the CTA has created regulations, codes of practice and guidelines to ensure accessible transportation, such as the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (ATPDR) and the new Accessible Transportation Planning and Reporting Regulations (ATPRR) are followed.

Our goal is to educate the public and to provide meaningful and practical ideas that you can use to help make our country more inclusive.
