It’s a wrap! Last week, Easter Seals Ontario hosted the final Drop Zone event of the year.

To our rappellers who participated across Canada: thank you for your bravery, generosity, and determination. With your support, we’ve raised vital funds for Easter Seals’ life-changing programs and services for people with disabilities, helping us create greater opportunities and more inclusive communities across Canada.

This October, we’re coming together with IZ, as proud national partners of Easterseals, to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and highlight the incredible contributions people with disabilities bring to the workforce every day.

We know that employment can be an important pathway to independence, connection, and opportunity. But for many people with disabilities, barriers to employment can still make it harder to access and thrive in the workplace.

That’s why our partnership is focused on reducing one of those barriers: workwear designed for every body.

These new, adaptive designs are created for the professional-on-the-go with increased access, opportunity, and value in the workplace.

The House of Commons returns today at a time when Canadians are facing significant economic pressures. For the 8 million Canadians living with disabilities, those pressures can be felt even more deeply, as higher costs and persistent barriers can compound existing inequities.

As Parliament resumes, we’re asking the House of Commons of Canada to keep Canadians living with disabilities at the centre of your leadership and action. We’re calling for:

✅ Accessible and affordable housing so Canadians with disabilities can find a safe and accessible place to call home.
✅ A stronger Canada Disability Benefit with increased funding now to ensure the benefit provides meaningful support as the cost of living continues to challenge Canadians.
✅ A more accessible transportation system by air, sea, and rail. People with disabilities deserve to travel for work, to see friends and family, and to enjoy leisure and recreation.
✅ Forward-thinking employment strategies developed with the disability community, including action to ensure people with disabilities are not left behind in the age of AI.
✅ Investment in accessible recreation, camps, and community infrastructure so everyone can participate, connect, and belong.

An accessible Canada requires leadership, investment, and action. Let’s ensure that accessibility remains on the agenda.

Thanks to the generosity of The Slaight Family Foundation, which committed $1.5 million to support the Easter Seals AccessAbility Program, 16-year-old Landon is gaining greater freedom and independence.

Diagnosed with spina bifida, Landon uses a manual wheelchair for mobility and loves getting outdoors and taking part in adventures. But living in a rural area can make navigating his community, and even his own driveway, a challenge. Uneven terrain, gravel, mud and snow can be difficult to navigate, especially with the small front casters on his wheelchair.

Through the AccessAbility Program, Landon received funding for a durable front-wheel attachment designed for manual wheelchairs. The attachment will help him navigate challenging terrain more easily, reducing barriers and giving him greater independence to get outside and enjoy the activities he loves.

For Landon, greater accessibility means more opportunities to explore, participate and experience the outdoors on his own terms.

We’re grateful to The Slaight Family Foundation for helping make possibilities like these a reality.

With summer winding down and kids heading back to school, we’re saying goodbye to another amazing camp season.

To our incredible campers, counsellors, staff, volunteers, donors and partners: thank you for making camp possible and helping create a summer full of joy and possibility for kids, youth, and adults living with disabilities.
