In the spirit of unity and inclusivity, November marks a special occasion for Indigenous communities across Canada as it's recognized as Indigenous Disability Awareness Month.

This month is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible resilience, strength, and rich cultural diversity within Indigenous communities, while also focusing on the importance of ensuring inclusivity and support for individuals with disabilities. In our efforts to shed light on this crucial observance, we are delighted to highlight the impactful work of the British Columbia Aboriginal Network On Disability Society (BCANDS)

Indigenous Disability Awareness Month is a time for reflection and action, raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by Indigenous individuals living with disabilities. It's an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the experiences of these communities and show our commitment to fostering a more inclusive and accessible society.

At the heart of any progressive society lies a commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of all its members. The Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW) recently took a significant step towards advancing these ideals by providing crucial recommendations for improving the Draft Standard on employment.

In our 8-page brief, we presented a series of carefully considered suggestions aimed at bolstering the Draft Standard, designed to ensure equitable opportunities and a level playing field for all Canadians. These recommendations, honed by our years of dedication to the cause of disability inclusion and employment, set forth a roadmap for a more inclusive and accessible workforce.

However, the true strength of any initiative lies in the collective wisdom and shared vision of a community. To this end, we reached out to our extensive network of organizations, advocates, and the community to gather feedback on our recommendations. The response was nothing short of inspiring.

🌟✨ Reflecting on a Remarkable DEAM Journey ✨🌟

As Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) comes to a close, we're bursting with gratitude and excitement! This October, CCRW and our incredible community celebrated the spirit of inclusion in numerous ways, and it's time to take a moment to appreciate the journey.

🎁 Our dedicated teams sent out gift baskets filled with appreciation to our inclusive employers. It's our way of saying "thank you" for their unwavering commitment and dedication to fostering inclusive workplaces.

πŸ“œ DEAM was proclaimed in Newfoundland, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards a more inclusive Canada. This is not just a proclamation; it's a testament to the collective efforts of everyone who believes in the power of diversity and inclusion.

🌟 We couldn't have achieved our goals without the passionate and talented job seekers who inspire us daily. We highlighted some of these amazing individuals, showing appreciation for their unique talents and contributions.

🀝 CCRW hosted and attended events with other inclusive employers, engaging in meaningful conversations about how to create more inclusive workplaces. We're committed to driving change together.

🎬 To wrap up this memorable month, we were partners in a movie screening for an important Indigenous film, further emphasizing the importance of diversity and cultural understanding in our society.

Thank you to each and every one of you for being part of our DEAM journey. Together, we're making strides toward a brighter, more inclusive future for all. Let's keep the momentum going beyond DEAM! 🌈πŸ’ͺ

10/05/2023

As October unfolds, the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work stands at the forefront of two essential observances: Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) and Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM). These campaigns, which run from October 1st to 7th and throughout the entire month, respectively, hold deep significance for CCRW and its mission to support individuals with disabilities, both visible and invisible.

Mental Illness Awareness Week, celebrated nationally in Canada, sheds light on the importance of understanding, supporting, and de-stigmatizing mental health conditions. This year, CCRW joins the nationwide conversation, emphasizing the significance of acknowledging not only physical disabilities but also the often hidden and misunderstood challenges faced by individuals with mental health conditions.

With one in five Canadians experiencing mental illness in their lifetime, according to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Mental Illness Awareness Week is a crucial platform for education and advocacy. CCRW recognizes that supporting individuals with mental health conditions is not only a moral imperative but also integral to fostering inclusive workplaces and communities.
