Why is there a knife in this video? Because this is the part of baby sleepwear you never get to see.

Infant sleepwear has to pass real safety standards for pulling, picking, and scraping, so that nothing ever ends up loose in your baby’s sleep space. Our lab (understandably) doesn’t let us film, so I recreated one of the harshest durability tests at my kitchen table.

I scraped our sleep sack with a sharp knife as hard as I could. Nothing came off. Not even a fleck of the shimmer design embedded in the fabric. The tip of the knife bent before the fabric gave.

I believe companies should be 100% responsible for proving their products are safe. That legwork should never fall on you.

We get this question a lot, what does it look like when the baby isn’t breathing.

So this is what our sleepwear would look like. The reflection doesn’t change since there is no motion in the fabric. It’s a constant static reflection.

Our award winning shimmer effect makes it easier to see your baby breathing, right from your own baby monitor.

No apps. No subscription fees. No false alarms. Just instant peace of mind.

“Love our sleep sack. Our son recently developed eczema, so the products we choose matter a lot. This sleep sack not only gives my husband peace of mind while our son sleeps, but peace of mind knowing it’s safe for his sensitive skin! We also love how easy it is to wash.” -Louise V.

When my daughter was a baby, I worked so hard to get her to sleep that I didn’t want to risk waking her if I wanted to check on her breathing.

I also wasn’t comfortable having devices attached to such a tiny growing body. Plus I couldn’t afford them anyway.

Fast forward years later, after helping so many other families navigate the challenging world of infant sleep, I’ve created sleepwear that reflects night vision light from your baby monitor so you can easily see them breathing.
It’s something so simple and so accessible, I wish I had it when I needed it personally, so many years ago.

I chose GOTS certified organic cotton, because it’s healthier and babies put everything in their mouths. It’s free of toxic dyes, bleaches and is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning no harmful chemicals in the processing of the fabric, threads and zippers.

Easy to wash. Gender neutral so no need to buy again with the next baby.

No subscription fees or false alarms making you 10x more anxious.

No WIFI issues or battery charging to deal with.

Just less anxiety and more sleep.

Love it or your money back❤️

Just because they sell it does not mean it's safe.

Every product in this video is for sale right now: a sleep positioner, a hooded fleece swaddle, a "car seat" with no certification labeling, a hands-free bottle holder, a weighted sleep sack. Each one goes against guidance from the AAP, the CPSC, or federal law. And each one has a listing with a nice photo, a star rating, and an Add to Cart button.

Here's where I stand. Companies should be 100% responsible for making sure what they sell is safe and meets the safety standards where it's sold, and ideally the strictest standards anywhere. That's the job. It shouldn't be on you to read regulations at 2am to figure out if a swaddle is safe.

But right now, a lot of that legwork lands on parents, and that isn't fair.

So here's what we're doing about it. Sleep of Mind sleepwear is 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, and we're testing to meet safety standards beyond the US, so the bar goes up for infant sleepwear, not just for us.

And if you're vetting a brand, a few questions to ask:
❤️ What are they saying about safety on their own channels?
❤️ Do they name the standards they meet?
❤️ Can they show you the testing?

A little legwork up front helps you find brands you can trust, so you don't have to keep doing it.

Me at 3am, pinch-zooming the baby monitor like I’m solving a crime on CSI

Monitors are great until you’re staring at pixels, waiting for a tiny chest to move or a sound to come through. It’s exhausting.
The shimmer design in our sleepwear makes your monitor better instantly: just glance, see the breathing, and go back to sleep.

100% cotton is worse for your baby than anyone ever told you.

There’s a reason that cotton sleep sack at a big retailer is cheap.

Cotton grows on about 2% of the world’s farmland, yet uses roughly 10% of the world’s agricultural insecticides. After harvest, the fabric is usually bleached, dyed and finished with things like formaldehyde-based resins and chemical softeners. In the US and Canada, labels must list fiber content. Not finishes. And the US has no federal limit on formaldehyde in clothing.

Newborns sleep up to 18 hours a day, and babies spend 12 to 16 hours a day in sleepwear through their first year. Their skin is about 30% thinner than yours. And every baby puts their sleeper in their mouth.

I’m not saying throw it all out and buy organic. I’m saying choose better for what your baby chews on, and what’s against your baby’s skin the longest: crib sheets, sleepwear and diapers.

When you’re shopping for a baby sleep sack, swaddle or wearable blanket, look for GOTS certified organic cotton and OEKO-TEX Standard 100. Together, they cost more. You’re paying for cotton grown without pesticides and kept clean through every step of production.

You think hard about formula and first foods. Sleepwear deserves the same look.

You’re already buying sleepwear. It might as well give you more peace of mind too.

Infant sleepwear is one of the most regulated things you will ever buy for your baby. In the US that’s CPSIA and 16 CFR 1615/1616. In the UK it’s the Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985. In Australia it’s AS/NZS 1249. Every one of those rules exists because a baby sleeps in this garment for 12 hours a day, mouths it, sweats in it, and can’t tell you if something is wrong.

Craft supplies live in a completely different world. Glitter, glitter glue, tempera paint, pipe cleaners. The safety standards they’re held to are nowhere near as strict as the ones for infant sleepwear, because nobody expects a baby to sleep in them. Here’s what sleepwear has to pass, and what’s been found in craft supplies:

⚠️ Lead: the sleepwear limit is 90 ppm in any paint or coating. A Washington State lab measured the glitter on a kids’ pencil pouch at 614 ppm. A children’s finger paint set was recalled in the EU at 11,800 ppm.
⚠️ Phthalates: capped at 0.1% in anything made to help a child under 3 sleep. A kids’ paint set was pulled in the EU for DEHP at 0.45%, 4.5x the limit.
⚠️ Flammability: 3 seconds of open flame, char length under 7 inches, tested again after 50 washes. Glitter and tinsel are metallized PET film, the same material the FAA ordered off every aircraft in 2000 for flammability.
⚠️ Small parts and durability: pulled, twisted, dropped and bitten, then checked for anything that came off. Glitter sheds by design. Glue cracks and flakes. Pipe cleaners shed fibre off a wire. Not one of these would survive it, and every piece that comes off is a choking hazard.

The shimmer in Sleep of Mind sleepwear is a reflective print embedded into the fabric, third-party lab tested, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Same organic cotton as regular sleepwear. The only difference is what it was designed to do: show you your baby’s breathing on your own night-vision monitor so you can stop tiptoeing in to check.

You’re already buying sleepwear. It might as well be safe, and it might as well help you sleep too.

Your first outing with a baby is not about where you went.

It’s the third buckle check. The 20 under the speed limit. The 40 minutes you called a success.

If you did any of this, you weren’t overreacting. You were a brand new mom doing the most important job there is.

Send this to a mom who needs to hear it’s normal.
