Playground of the Mind where Thought is the Game

This picture was taken at a temple in Myanmar. The tour guide was showing us how to take pictures in an artist way. When I look at this picture, it reminds of some of the imagery I use during hypnosis – the playground of our minds.

Playground of the mind

Our brain is designed in such a way that it can’t actually differentiate between visualization and action. This is as powerful as it can get and people who make the most out of their lives and leave a mark behind, use this magnificent power to its fullest.

From the early years of evolution to the recent years of enormous scientific development and research, human beings have always been fascinated to dive deep into the journey of the mind – a ‘magical software’ that drives our emotions, feelings, and thoughts.

So much study has gone into the functions of our brains and how different parts of them are responsible for the different actions of our lives, that somewhere down the line, our mind has lost its due importance.

The brain and mind

It would be foolish of us to think that our brain is our mind and our mind is only what our brain is.

This is simply not true. While the brain is the fine organ of our body that helps us to process, store and recall all the information as needed, our mind is the force that enables us to think, perceive and react, not just with others but also with our own selves.

While our brain helps us to hear, to see, to respond, and express ourselves in communicable languages, our mind is the manifestation of what we see, what we hear, and what we think. Our mind is basically the awareness of our consciousness.

The power of our minds

The phrase “Change your mindset”, makes the above notion all the more true because we can definitely change our mind, as in, how we think or what we think about. However, no matter what we do, we cannot simply change our brain or exchange it with a wise being in order to get a share of his or her wisdom.

Whether we think about a dashing red car or a cherry tree in full bloom, the neurological processes in our brain that take place are all the same; but the former thought puts a dazzling set of wheels in front of our eyes while the latter fills our heart with a blissful breeze. This is the beauty of our minds.

Our mind does not only control what we think, it helps us understand the thought and then tells us why we should or should not go with that thought. Whatever our minds can conceive, we, as human beings, can achieve. Rather, the mind itself can achieve.

We can be as strict as a boss to our juniors, and at the same time, we can be extremely benevolent to a person in need. At home, we can be the friendliest parents that a child can get, and at the same time, when in a classroom, we can be the sternest teacher that any student ever wishes for.

So, the same person changes his or her mind to tend to the different relationships that they share with other people in the society. This is the most fascinating thing of our mind and the magical power of one of its many facets, which is thought.

From the most enlightened spiritual leaders of the world to the most successful materialistic leaders of this new age, the belief in ‘what we think, we become’ is more than consistent.

We all love to travel and see different places and get enriched by different experiences. Now, when we are stuck in the middle of a boring boardroom meeting or in a tedious college lecture that shows no sign of ending any time soon, our mind starts to wander right? The mind-boggling thing is - if at that exact moment we imagine ourselves relaxing in the blue waters of Hawaii or going on a silent walk in a forest trail, our brain imagines that, and instead of just sitting there and thinking, we are acting.

Whether we get touched gently by a wave or stay mesmerized looking at a stream without a name in the greens of the forest, the simple thought of it makes our brain believe we are taking part physically in that specific piece of action.

No need to offend your chairman or jump unnecessarily off the classroom chair to go to Hawaii. The power of your thought will transform your mind and you land up in Hawaii immediately. At least to your brain and in your mind, you are there!

The Mind is the Master

From here comes the power or beauty of positive thoughts; the power of belief. Irrespective of the field, if one is a leader or a stalwart in a specific field, this person has, probably, from his or her childhood, through the early formative years, right up to his or her adulthood, and even across the years of success, has always imagined her/himself sitting at the pinnacle. In that way, the whole mindset of that person gets changed because of conceiving this positive line of thought.

A person breathes that life of success, talks confidently, and walks in a commanding way that one does, when one is sure of the destination. In doing so, the mindset of the person changes early, the brain imitates these thoughts as actions and both consciously and subconsciously these thoughts get transformed into real-life actions. Ultimately when the time comes, undoubtedly with hard work and determination, he or she gets there and lives the life that s/he had always thought about.

Therefore, the mind is the master that molds us and at the end of the day, makes us. Our thought is the tool, with which, we can shape our minds and form our today, tomorrow, and the future.

Energy in Motion - Life is Energy in Motion

This picture was taken from my hotel room when I went to Niagara Falls, Canada recently. It felt magical, peaceful and powerful, all at the same time. This got me thinking about energy, how important it is that it flows and moves, and what happens when it doesn’t.

Feeling Stuck
Whether it’s an unfulfilling old relationship, or the painful unfair treatment from a family member, or the rant and ravings from our exes, we have all in one way or another, had our fair share of negative experiences at some point in our lives.

If not anything, simply showing up each day for a job that seems to be so mundane and unproductive can often leave us with a feeling of being stuck in an unceasing rut.

Now, this feeling of being stuck may not feel painful, however, it surely becomes excessively painstaking, for both our mental and physical health, if we voluntarily choose to stay with it. The fear from our past deeds or circumstances stick with us like glue and it overwhelms us to the point that our present gets invariably drawn to a cascade of regret that has its roots in the past.

Effects of feeling stuck
If we constantly hold on to someone or something, we keep our hearts full with many things from our past. However, in doing so we fail to realize that we are depriving our heart of things that it might actually desire in the present.

Instead of cluttering our hearts with things that we do not need at all, we should use our energy to let go of those things and focus on what lies ahead of us. The moment we let our energy move on from our past, we will be able to see what’s important for us at the present moment.

In times of being incessantly stuck, it is important that we take a step back and use our energy to think about why we are here, what got us here in the first place and what we actually desire from this situation.

Releasing stuck energy
Until and unless we step back a little and look at our problems from a distance rather than being wholeheartedly involved in them, we won’t be able to change our perspective. This is very important as the problem we are stuck with, can’t be solved from the same consciousness and perspective that gave birth to it in the first place.

Suppose we have lost our way in the woods and as a result, we start to sweat and panic. Now, suppose we have the power to fly, and with that power, we rise above the tall trees and discover that the exit route we were looking for is just a 20-minute walk from our current location. Even better – there is another way out if we head back a little and take a left and the highway is just at the corner.

Once we take a small step away from our problems, we can set ourselves in motion to look for solutions rather than being stuck with the same situation. The moment we set ourselves in motion from within us, our thoughts, our energy, our will, will all work together in making us go with the natural flow of life.

This will help us a great deal in loosening up our mental shackles. We will gradually be able to calm ourselves down and start looking at what exactly needs to be done today, at this very moment so that our tomorrow becomes more fruitful. A strong intent to get over our past will be enough to set our energies in motion with the natural course of life which is ‘moving forward’.

When we move forward, we relieve ourselves of the heavy baggage from our past and start looking at the endless opportunities that lie waiting for us.

If time doesn’t stop for anyone and always keeps moving forward, why should we waste our energy going against time and be motionless in sticking to our past?

Once we let go, we will gently allow ourselves to be; to be more present, to be more meaningful, and to be more excited to get back our life that has our present story only, but not a postscript from our long gone past. We allow ourselves to release the energy and let flow as it should.
