This Thanksgiving weekend, we are especially grateful for the people and organizations who make our work possible and share our commitment to making Canada the best country in the world for people with disabilities.

We are thankful for our founder, The Honourable Vim Kochhar, whose vision and dedication have guided our work for more than four decades, and for the Team Canada Paralympic medallists who have given us so many reasons to celebrate.

CFPDP is also grateful for all that we have accomplished together and for the relationships that continue to make our work so meaningful.

From all of us at Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons, we wish you and your loved ones a warm and happy Thanksgiving! 🧡

A career dedicated to breaking down barriers will be recognized on October 8 when Brad McCannell is inducted into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame in the Achiever category.

McCannell has helped transform accessibility in Canada and around the world for more than four decades. Living with a spinal cord injury since 1980, he became one of Canada's foremost experts in universal design, helping remove barriers in major buildings, transportation hubs and international events worldwide.

We look forward to celebrating him at the 33rd Annual Canadian Disability Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon, presented by CIBC, at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.

Six Paralympic medals. Multiple world championships. An incredible 52 World Cup podium finishes.

Mac Marcoux is one of Canada’s most celebrated alpine skiers ... and on October 8, he will take his place in the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame.

After losing much of his vision as a child, Marcoux became dominant in downhill racing and built an extraordinary career on the slopes. Today, he continues to contribute to Canadian sport by supporting athletes through his work with the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

We look forward to celebrating him when he is inducted in the Athlete category at the 33rd Annual Canadian Disability Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon, presented by CIBC, at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.

The team at CFPDP joins CHKC in remembering Joan Mactavish. Our sincere condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and the deafblind community. She was a true pioneer and leaves an incredible legacy.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Joan Mactavish, a remarkable advocate, educator, intervenor, and pioneer whose contributions helped shape the DeafBlind community in Canada and beyond.
Joan's impact began through her extraordinary partnership with Mae Brown, Canada's first DeafBlind university graduate. As Mae's intervenor, Joan provided the support that helped make higher education accessible at a time when such opportunities were virtually unheard of for individuals who are DeafBlind.
Following Mae Brown's passing, Joan carried forward many of the ideas and initiatives they shared, helping advance services, supports, and opportunities for individuals who are DeafBlind.
Joan was more than an advocate. She was a mentor, author, teacher, and champion for inclusion. Through her dedication, she helped establish the value and importance of intervenor services and inspired generations of professionals, families, and individuals who are DeafBlind to believe in a future without limits.
The DeafBlind community has lost a true pioneer, but Joan's legacy will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched, the barriers she helped dismantle, and the doors she opened for future generations.
We extend our deepest condolences to Joan's family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory continue to inspire us to build a more accessible, inclusive, and connected world.
