🚫Naturopathic medicine is not evidence based
✅Naturopathic medicine follows an evidenced based model that incorporates traditional knowledge and practices. While there is an abundance of ancient wisdom within the naturopathic community, Naturopathic doctors are trained to critically analyze and understand research. Natural therapies such as supplements, herbs and protocols undergo scientific methods of review in order to outline their efficacy. Take acupuncture for example, a therapy that is centuries old that now has extensive research to guide treatment protocols.
🚫Naturopathic doctors are anti-conventional/allopathic medicine
✅Naturopathic doctors work together with medical doctors and other health care practitioners to provide a circle of care for patients that offers a full spectrum of care. Naturopathic doctors have a large roll to play in filling the gaps when it comes to complex or chronic illness, when limits have been reached through other avenues, but we rely on communication and cooperation with medical doctors in order to provide the best possible patient care. It is not a matter of one or the other, the system needs both!
🚫Naturopathic treatments are too complicated and unrealistic
✅If this resonates maybe you’ve heard of the elimination diet, but we’re not always trying to take the fun out of things! 😂Naturopathic doctors will meet you where you are at in order to provide a treatment plan that is effective and practical. At the end of the day we are here to educate and empower you to take control of your own health, but this responsibility falls on you to take action. We do everything we can to encourage you along the way and remove any barriers to health you may struggle to overcome on your own.

✅While naturopathic services are not yet covered by provincial health plans in Canada (the dream someday) many insurance providers are recognizing naturopathic medicine and offering partial to full coverage for services! When a person experiences trouble sleeping, there are usually a range of intertwined factors that are contributing to the issue. Sometimes it’s just one thing but more often than not, there are several underlying causes that can impact sleep.

To properly investigate sleep challenges, I examine and address imbalances in what I consider to be the 5 Pillars of Healthy Sleep:

Environment
Schedule
Headspace
Nutrition
Movement

I also inquire about medical conditions and/or medication that may interfere with sleep and refer out if I detect a medical issue and/or a medical sleep disorder that is beyond my scope of practice.

“Physical Wellness treatments”, with Dr. Erinn Musial

Dr. Erinn is a Naturopathic Doctor providing care to the Toronto area, as well as virtual care throughout the province of Ontario. Erinn completed her Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics at StFX University. Previously a competitive swimmer, she always had an interest in how the body works and understanding how movement impacts our overall health. With a need to know more, she discovered the naturopathic program and instantly fell in love with the philosophy and principles of the profession. She attended the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, and formed a keen interest in the mind body connection, and how mental and physical health cannot be separated. She participated in the sports medicine focus shift in her intern year at CCNM, furthering her interest in pain management, while also diving into her true passion of mental health care.

 

With an interest in manual therapies and a physical/sports medicine background, this service entails massage/cupping/myofascial release and/or acupuncture, depending on the patient’s request.

The services will be $140 for a 60-minute initial appointment and $105 for a 45 minute follow-up, under a naturopathic licence.

A Mini Guide About Protein From Our Clinic Nutritionist Inder Gharial, CNP

🍗 Protein is the building block of the body, it makes YOU.
🍗 Protein is essential for growth and repair.
The amino acids that create a complete protein are used to make hormones, enzymes, antibodies, and neurotransmitters.
🍗 Protein promotes satiety after a meal.
🍗 It is important to know that the quality of the protein you eat is a key component to well-being, along with ensuring the balance of the amino acids.

🔸 protein is made by a chain of amino acids, this is important to know!
🔸 there are 20 amino acids on the chain (think if it like a beaded necklace) that make a complete protein — this is the type of protein you want to consume.
🔸 11 out of the 20 amino acids are non-essential, meaning they ARE important however our bodies can make them naturally.
🔸 the other 9 amino acids are essential, meaning we must get them through the food we eat, our bodies cannot manufacture them on its own.
🔸 animal foods are complete proteins so you can eat them knowing you are getting all of the essential amino acids your body needs.
🔸 vegetarian foods often have low quantities of one or more of the 9 essential amino acids so the key is pairing specific plant foods to make it complete—this is simple to achieve!
🔸 there are also some plant foods you can find as sources of complete protein such as quinoa, tofu, spirulina and chia seeds.
