I unexpectedly gave myself permission to pause from posting on social media this summer for the quiet I didn’t even realize I needed in order to hear myself.
.
As my dear friend said to me recently, no one has been unscathed by the life challenges that have come with the pandemic. Everyone is trying to recover, adapt or “pivot” (the new dreaded 4letter word). I realize there is so much going on behind-the-scenes in everyone’s lives that we don’t always see or hear about on social media.
.
So I wanted to be real with you and share that I’m still imperfect at caring for myself first and it feels like a constant work in progress. The point is to just keep trying though because it’s truly vital and the body keeps the score if you don’t.
.
I’m happy to be back posting and sharing glimpses of how I filled my summer and what I’m excited about for this fall.
.
More importantly though, I would be so happy if when reading this post that you paused and felt inspired to go care for yourself in any way you need because these days more than ever it really matters. #preventburnout

Summer is my favourite season but are you feeling lots of mixed emotions like I am as we carefully launch into the summer season? It still feels so different with the pandemic. Here are 3 strategies I’m using to feel better:
.
✅ Practicing surrender. We’ve all had to learn how to let go of control over the past year and a half and true acceptance of what we can’t control welcomes the ease of surrendering.
.
✅ Just Planning a Little not A Lot. The planner in me still wants to look ahead to try to aim to do some things and have some goals but I am making these very simple and adaptable.
.
✅Savouring the Moments when the Come. It’s amazing how the simplest activities can bring even more joy now since we haven’t had practice doing some of these regular activities. And even though there’s still limitations, I’m trying to savour the moments when we get to try something again that we haven’t been able to do in a long time.
.

Everyone’s resilience has been tested to its limits 😆this past year making feeling “burnt out” super common. That’s why I’m grateful that @liannephillipson
invited me on her informative and uplifting podcast #eatthiswithlianne so we could explore what burn out really is, what the adrenal glands have to do with it and reviewed strategies to help our bodies and minds recover or adapt better to stress.

Brain fog, fatigue, headaches, sleep disturbances, digestive distress, weight gain and dizziness are just some of the physical signs that can be associated with burn out which is known medically as “HPA axis dysfunction” (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis dysfunction).
