Do you practice mindful eating?

"How mindful are you of the impact stress has on your digestion? If you haven't noticed, stress wreaks havoc on the digestive tract. It can cause heartburn, gas, bloating, abdominal pain and irregular bowel movements, and it takes more than just eating right and some nutrients to help.

In order to improve digestive health long-term, it is key to target the nervous system effectively. Your nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord, sends out messages to control your digestive tract."

Remember this diet may help short term, but is not meant to be done long term! If you feel better eating a low FODMAP diet, it is very likely you have SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth), and this needs to be treated!

"Some studies suggest that between 6 to 15% of healthy, asymptomatic people have SIBO, while up to 80% of people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have SIBO. "

Stress - how exactly does it impact IBS?

"When you're in a state of fear or panic, your body has no desire to digest a meal. Stress leads to lowered stomach acid, hydrochloric acid (HCl), which is needed to break down proteins but also signal other digestive organs to begin secreting enzymes and prepping for food entering the body. HCl kills pathogens (unwanted microbes!) as is a huge part of our defence system, too!"

Doesn't sound great does it? It basically turns off your whole digestive system :(

It will take time and commitment, but it is possible to feel better!

Anyone else out there push themselves a liiiitttlllle too far this weekend? Whether it be from lack of sleep or too much indulgence the after-effects can definitely be disruptive. I never coach my clients to try and achieve perfection ie: not partaking in good food, some wine or a late night here and there ... rather I coach them to find balance
I’m finding balance post-indulgence with a beautiful salmon and rainbow chard dinner and while I cook I’m sipping on this tea which helps to boost immunity in a big way!
