🚨 PERIODS. PMDD. WOMEN’S HEALTH. FEMINIST MEMOIR. WE’RE ON THE LIST. ❤️‍🔥📚
My memoir, Where the Eff Is My Red Tent? On Periods, PMDD and Hormone Hell, is showing up on Goodreads lists for menstruation, women’s health, feminist memoirs, and more — which feels pretty damn great.
Because this book isn’t just about PMDD. It’s about a societal context (yes, I do mean patriarchy) that means it’s taken me (& so many, many others) decades to receive care for a debilitating hormonal condition that’s still too often misunderstood, dismissed, or misdiagnosed. And about what happens when we finally start talking about the things we’ve been taught to keep quiet.👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️👯‍♂️
🔥 This is bigger than this book. It’s about advocacy. It’s about making women’s health impossible to ignore, challenging medical misogyny, and reminding people that everyone deserves answers, care, and support.
I need YOUR help to get this book into more hands. 💪❤️
✨ HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP:
📖 1. Get on my pre-order list! Follow the link in this post or head to the link in my bio. Be first to hear of all new developments.
⭐ 2. Add my book to your Goodreads! Find Where the Eff Is My Red Tent? on Goodreads and add it to your “Want to Read” shelf. Every little bit helps more readers discover this book — and thus, PMDD.
💌 3. Share this post with someone who cares about periods, feminism, women’s health, or changing the conversation around PMDD.
Let’s make some noise about the stuff we were told not to. Because our stories matter. Our health matters. And we deserve better.
In it together. ❤️
Love, Heather

Oct 18th: “Person’s Day” — umm, WTF?!🤯
The fact that we need a day to recognize women as persons says a lot.
Rights should be a given. Too often, they’re not.
Progress isn’t inevitable. People make it happen by questioning the rules, challenging the status quo, and rewriting the story.✍🏾✍🏽✍🏼
🇨🇦Person’s Day, celebrated on October 18 in Canada, honours the Famous Five — Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards — whose fight for women to be legally recognized as persons helped advance women’s rights in Canada.🇨🇦 we’ve still got a ways to go.💪🏿💪🏽💪🏼
Huge thanks to photographer Brian Aikens (Brian Aikens | Photographer ), creator Erica Otto (Erica Otto ), Verge Art Collective (Verge Art Collaborative ), and everyone who participated in creating these stunning images. Your presence and creativity matter so much. ❤️
Persons for persons!

We’re in it together,

Had you ever heard of ‘Persons Day’?

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on Periodic Bitch — one of the very first literary memoirs all about PMDD.
Needless to say… I’m VERY excited to read this one. 😂
(So much so that I burst a blood vessel in my bloody eye😂😂😂)!!!

73 health professionals. 30 years. One diagnosis: PMDD. 🩸
That’s the short version of my story, and the reason I wrote Where the Eff Is My Red Tent?
Early readers are already telling me what it meant to them (swipe →). One asked, “Where has this book been my whole life?” A registered psychotherapist said she’ll be recommending this to her clients.
This book is for anyone who’s been dismissed, told it’s “just hormones,” or wondered why nobody said something sooner. It’s also for the people who love them.

Couldn’t be more honoured to see our book on display at Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium in Vancouver. 🏳️‍🌈📚✨
A true q***r Vancouver institution, Little Sister’s has been championing q***r voices and building community since 1983—first opening upstairs in an old residential house on Thurlow Street before moving to its current location in the ’90s.
Through years of government harassment, censorship, and even three anti-gay terrorist bombings, Little Sister’s has continued to be a vital space for q***r books, art, culture, and community.🎉🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
To have our book on these shelves feels incredibly meaningful. Honoured doesn’t quite cover it. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

I was so moved by Farha Guerrero’s excellent interview about women’s health with Dr. Jerrilynn Prior, founder of CeMCOR - UBC Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research The centre for menstrual cycle and ovulation research UBC Faculty of Medicine 🙏🏻👏

NatGeo just published a piece on PMDD and I was thrilled this topic is finally getting long overdue coverage.
I also felt angry, and sad, because for one of the first times I saw: “rage,” and “suicidal thoughts” in the same breath as “1 in 10 women” in a mainstream publication.
Thank you! It’s about time…
They got the science right: it’s not out-of-whack hormones. PMDD is a brain sensitivity to normal hormonal shifts. Your brain isn’t broken. Neither are you. It’s just... extremely reactive to progesterone.
& here’s what science journalism can’t give you:
🩸the grief of losing two weeks of your life every month
🩸the shame spiral of “why can’t I just cope”
🩸the 2am google search no one talks about
🩸the dark humour that gets you through
🩸& the community of folks who actually GET IT
(Like the amazing and )
This is why I wrote “Where The Eff Is My Red Tent?: PMDD, Periods & Hormone Hell” because it’s the company, support and validation I needed every month after ovulating when I thought I was losing my mind.
