Galaxies

(2026, Youghiogheny glass, agate stone slices, lead, zinc frame, 19” x 15”)

Galaxies are the second largest structure in the universe* with an estimated 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe. In our galaxy, the Milky Way, there are between 100-400 billion stars with planets. The universe is big, y’all. As the old fisherman’s prayer says, "O God, Thy sea is so great and my boat is so small.”

This piece speaks to the scale and beauty of our universe and the organized chaos we exist within. The agate stone slices represent galaxies while the clear glass globs represent the stars. Both flow from the centre in a spiral - one of the three shapes galaxies take. This spiral, just as the spiral pattern of a galaxy, flowers, seashells, hurricanes, and so many other natural creations, follows the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio (1.618) is a mathematical proportion seen in art (the Mona Lisa), architecture (the Parthenon), throughout nature, in weather, and of course, in space. What’s up with that?

Please enjoy this cosmic creation. 🪐 ✨

*The largest structure in the universe is a filament, a cluster or supercluster of galaxies. Instead of a spiral, they are organized into a web. 🕸️ 🤔

Music In Colour 6: More Love (2026, glass, wire, lead, zinc frame)

The sixth in the Music in Colour series, this piece is based on Tenille Townes’ guitar, as played at a recent show. The Music In Colour pieces are meant to evoke the heat and energy of music and artistic expression, and the beauty of creation, and the More Love message is a perfect fit. I also added some pics of previous Music In Colour series pieces for your enjoyment.

“I think we could use a little more of that love around here
A little more of that love around here
You can't turn out the light with hate or fear
We could use a little more of that love around here”
- We Could Use a Little More

This piece can now be posted as it was gifted today. The design is a mix of sacred geometry, with Vesica Piscis in the centre and the Seed of Life surrounding it.

This was a retirement gift for an amazing therapist. To have a positive impact in one person’s life is a beautiful thing. I know firsthand how life changing a good therapist can be. Just think about how many lives she has impacted over four decades of community-based counselling. Ripples in water. Work as a gift. What an incredible legacy to leave in your career and your community.

Zachary (2025, glass and lead)

Now that this piece has been delivered, I can post this commissioned wedding gift (delivered before the 3rd anniversary!). This is Zachary and he’s obviously a very good boy.

Jupiter (2025, 17.5” x 13.5”), fused glass moons, glass and lead.

Thirty-two different types of glass were used to bring out the detailed beauty of Jupiter and its moons. Its four largest moons (Io, Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto) were made in the kiln by fusing coloured and clear glass, glass frit, and glass powder. Clear glass nuggets represent the stars.

In Latin, Jupiter means “sky father”, the king of the gods, just as Jupiter is king of the planets. In astrology Jupiter represents growth, luck, expansion, and abundance, and influences areas of life such as philosophy, higher learning, faith, and wisdom.

On a practical level, we humans owe our continued existence to Jupiter, as its gravity pulls rogue comets and asteroids towards it, sparing our fragile Earth from cosmic bombardment. Though it’s the largest planet, it has the shortest day, revolving in just ten 🌍 hours.

Jupiter is also a mini-solar system, with over 80 moons in orbit. Overlooked compared to Saturn’s epic rings, Jupiter actually has a faint ring around it (a fact that remote viewer Ingo Swann knew before our probes had found them).

Jupiter is beautiful. Its moons are fascinating and one of the promising places in our solar system to find microbial life, with subsurface oceans flowing under surface ice. I personally will not forget the day I landed Jupiter square in my telescope, hanging in space along with these four moons.

And of course, everyone’s favourite, the Great Red Spot, a giant storm that has been observed from Earth for nearly 150 years. Though it does seem to be shrinking slightly, with outside winds over 400 km/h, this storm should rage on for centuries still.

Jupiter. What a beauty. As Ete said to Tomi in An Investigation of Mars, “the universe is even more majestic than you can imagine.”

Hey, Moon (2025, 11” diameter), glass, lead, copper ring frame, featuring yellow “MacIntosh Stars”.

Our constant companion, our muse in the sky, the moon is essential for life on Earth, and the more we learn about it, the more mysterious our Moon seems to be. One day, Moon, I’d like to visit you.
Enjoy this Moon poem by Li Bai.

“Drinking Alone Under the Moon”
Among the blossoms waits a jug of wine.
I pour myself a drink, no loved one near.
Then raising my cup, I invite the bright moon and turn to my shadow. We are now three.
But the moon doesn’t understand drinking,
and my shadow follows my body like a slave.
Still, for a time they will be my companions,
a passing joy that should last through the spring.
I sing and the moon just wavers in the sky;
I dance and my shadow whips around like mad.
While lucid still, we have such fun together!
But stumbling drunk, each staggers off alone.
Though bound forever, unfettered we roam
till we meet on yonder river of stars.

Well it’s been a couple of years, but I’m finally sharing a new piece of work. After writing two books, the chaos of moving, and finally unpacking and getting my glass studio set up, here is my first creation of 2025:

Stonehenge Sunset (2025, 19.5” x 12”, glass, lead, zinc frame)

“What I don’t understand about these megalithic sites,” said Ib, strolling around the inside of the circle, “is why here? I mean okay, the stone was nearby, but why this specific spot? What’s so special about here?”
“And in the cases where the stone isn’t nearby, like Stonehenge, or Giza, it just shows how important a specific location was to them,” said Barry. “Or Pumapunku! The stones had to go up a mountain. The site had to have been pretty damned significant to put that much effort into moving huge stones there. And then there’s the stone. What was so special about the stone in Wales that they would quarry it and drag it all the way to Salisbury? Surely they could have found a closer source of stone. So what made that stone so special?”
“Hmm,” responded Ib. “Isn’t it funny that for thousands of years, around the world, all sorts of cultures, every continent, we made these. All around the world, humans thought doing this, creating places like this, was important. We marked the sky on the ground in giant stones. And then one day we stopped thinking they were important. Stopped making them. Stopped even knowing how.”
“Or even knowing why,” agreed Barry.
~ From “Something is Coming: Book Two of the Cosmic Series”

Construction on Stonehenge started at least 5,000 years ago by the ancients. While we speculate about its purpose (astronomy, burial, UFO landing zone), we don’t really know why the ancients built megalithic sites like this all over the world. What’s clear is that it was awfully important to them.
So important that they dragged the sarsen stones (averaging 25 tonnes) several kilometres. So important they quarried and moved the bluestones 240 km from south Wales. So important that they moved the six-tonne Altar Stone 700 km from the far north of Scotland. What was so special about these stones? What was so special about this location that they would drag them there?
This piece honours the vision and the mystery of Stonehenge and the megalithic gifts left to us around the world by our ancestors.
