HeartCheck ECG PEN Customer Testimonal - thank you Tm:

"I was searching the Internet for portable devices for monitoring my heart rhythm assuming that since there were devices for blood pressure why not heart rhythm. I came across a couple in the UK and then found the HeartCheck™ ECG PEN though an AF website I found. When I reviewed the company’s web site I was very impressed for what it did, the price point and the fact it is FDA approved. My brother in law does consulting for companies getting FDA approve for medical devices and he checked the HeartCheck™ ECG PEN out on the FDA site and was impressed by their submission and approval.

I find the HeartCheck™ ECG PEN easy to use and convenient as when I travel. By using the ECG PEN I am able to provide information to my doctor with more detail and convenience than ever before. In addition it is extremely cost effective vs visits to the doctors' office for an EKG or using a Holter monitor "

The HeartCheck ECG PEN is available at most Shoppers Drug Mart Stores and its potential for use in arrhythmia screening continues to grow. Here is a release from the FDA (http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm453610.htm).

After reviewing safety data, the FDA announced on July 9 that prescription non-aspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) increase the risk of heart attack, heart failure and stroke. NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac and celecoxib are commonly used to treat pain, inflammation and fever.

Labels for NSAIDs will be updated to include warnings that the risk of heart attack or stroke can occur within a few weeks of taking the medications and that the risk may be increased with higher doses. The FDA said it would also request labeling changes for over-the-counter non-prescription NSAIDs such as Advil, Motrin and Aleve.

“There is no period of use shown to be without risk,” Judy Racoosin, MD, deputy director of the FDA’s Division of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Addiction Products, said in a news release .

The labels will indicate the risks occur in patients with or without heart disease or risk factors for heart disease, although people with cardiovascular disease are at the greatest risk for adverse events associated with NSAIDs. Further, the FDA found that patients who received NSAIDs after a first heart attack were more likely to die compared with patients who were not prescribed NSAIDs after a heart attack.

In 2005, the FDA required manufacturers of NSAIDs to include boxed warnings on their labels indicating the risk of heart attack and stroke with NSAIDs. At that time, Pfizer withdrew valdecoxib (Bextra) from the market. In September 2004, Merck voluntarily withdrew another NSAID, rofecoxib (Vioxx), from the market.

The FDA said people taking NSAIDs who experience symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness or slurred speed should seek medical attention immediately

FDA is strengthening the existing prescription and Drug Facts labels warning that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – a group of drugs used for the temporary relief of pain and fever – can increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke, either of which can lead to death.

“Dear CardioComm Solutions thanks a lot for following up. Yes, everything seems to be working fine. My pen is now unlocked and I see the graphic versions of the reports I create as well I have also successfully emailed reports to my cardiologist. I have also been able to upload all reports to the GEMS home software and get actual print-outs of them. Great little device and it should help me figure out what is going on with my arrhythmia and get the necessary treatment. I am seeing my GP on Monday and he is very anxious to see the Heartcheck pen. He has prescribed the 48 hour heart monitor device and as happened with me, during the 48 hour period there were no episodes so it was $275 wasted. The HeartCheck ECG PEN device allows for immediate recording of any episodes so definitely a valuable tool.”

Research presented today at European Heart Rhythm Association EUROPACE — CARDIOSTIM 2015 warns cardiac device wearers to keep a safe distance from smartphones to avoid unwanted painful shocks or pauses in function.

If you are monitoring yourself with a device which needs a SMART Phone and an app think instead of the HeartCheck ECG PEN which is a stand alone device without such a risk.

Professor Christof Kolb, head of the Department of Electrophysiology at the German Heart Centre, said: ‘Nearly everyone uses smartphones and there is the possibility of interference with a cardiac device if you come too close. Patients with a cardiac device can use a smartphone but they should not place it directly over the cardiac device. That means not storing it in a pocket above the cardiac device. They should also hold their smartphone to the ear opposite to the side of the device implant.’

Feedback from a HeartCheck ECG PEN customer. PRICELESS

"I have been using an app that my wife has encouraged me to use to track my heart rate. This measurement showed my heart rate has been in the high 90's all the time and I came to believe that is normal for me. I bought the HeartCheck ECG device and it shows clearly, with an ECG, that my heart rate is in the high 60's. I am so happy to learn this...... here is a marketing tag line...

Running a publically traded company is an interesting job. There is part of your job that is responsible for running a business (AP/AR, sales, marketing, etc.) and then there is running the same company in the forum of public opinion where share value, trading volume is impacted not just by fiscal performance but also effectiveness of press releases and shareholder/stakeholder communication.

There is an independent review of CardioComm Solutions that was brought to my attention. It is worth a read

It is a pleasure to receive such HeartCheck ECG PEN customer updates

Linda from Montreal ordered a HeartCheck ECG PEN from Pharmacy.ca. When she went to her Shoppers Drug Mart store the pharmacist there told her they did not have the HeartCheck ECG PEN in stock. The issue was that they DID and the pharmacist did not know. Linda, who is a retired cardiac nurse needed to find a way to monitor her husband. After getting her device and using it for two weeks, this is what she wrote.... Thank you Linda

Dear Mr. Grima,

I just wanted to thank you for your careful attention and follow-up on our recent order of your product.

My husband and I have found it very easy to use and have obtained excellent quality ECG tracings. The best news is that we finally have a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation for my husband and he is now receiving treatment.

His cardiologist was very impressed with your product and has shared it with his colleagues.

So again, thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Linda F

From a HeartCheck ECG PEN customer:

At age 43 I was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation. Shortly after the first few episodes I began to develop multiple arrhythmias and was put through the prescription experiment (as I am sure many can relate too). It became obvious that a 30 second ECG in my Doctors’ office once every three months was not going to capture was I was describing to him, so with this frustration in mind I set out to find ECG technology that I could access anytime, anywhere when I need it. Online research brought me to the HeartCheck website and I soon found what I was needing. The HeartCheck Pen! My wife made one call to the posted number and received excellent service and support. I paid with credit card and my Pen was delivered to my rural address within 24 hours. Simply awesome. I found the pen to be very simple to use and after a quick reading and unlock I requested a pre paid “bundle” of Doctor evaluated readings so that I could match the convenience of the pen with the peace of mind and safety of nearly instant readings, evaluations and reports when I need it. I have used the Pen on several occasions and it has captured several arrhythmias that up until now the inconvenient Doctor visit has missed. My cardiologist is very impressed with this device and we intend to use the valuable evaluations to aid in future diagnosis and treatments. As a result of the polite and professional staff and the unmatched convenience and knowledge provided by this technology I now feel a little more in control of my situation and this offers much need peace of mind.

Question and Answer:

Question: How much is this device. I'm a nurse. I'd love for my floor to have one

HeartCheck PEN Answer:
Thank you for your question. There are two version of the HeartCheck device. Either would work for you.

Type 1: The OTC HeartCheck ECG PEN is designed to be most effective for an individual or a family to use. Hold 20 ECGs in memory. See the following on its use https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj5jaEpmOMM.

Type 2: The HeartCheck ECG Monitor is a bigger device that can be used under a physician's direction (Rx). It is designed on a one device-to-many-user basis (holds 200 ECGs in memory). In addition to being a hand held device, it has an other option for recording an ECG through the use of one lead 3 wired ECG cable to be added that uses disposable skin electrodes. We use the wrists to collect the ECGs so it is easy on patients. See our training video (time stamp 4min 16 seconds specifically) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJNDwXLw2V8

We have used the HeartCheck ECG Monitor in long term care facilities and nursing floors with success.

Pricing: The retail price is $259 for the ECG PEN and $399 for the ECG Monitor version. We also have an excellent supply of disposible electrodes that is great for sensitive skin (kids and elderly).

It would be great to connect with you about how the use of HeartCheck devices could be implemented with the patients on your floor. Just drop us an email at [email protected] and we will follow up right away.

Be sure to ask your Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall pharmacist about the HeartCheck ECG PEN. We are working to provide information to all pharmacists where the PEN is being carried however even our efforts are not always enough and certainly the motivated customer better than anything else.

Feedback from a customer:

I wanted to share with you a recent experience I had at my local Shoppers Drug Mart (located at Bloor and Runnymede) in Toronto.

I visited their pharmacy on Friday to fill a prescription. There were two pharmacists behind the counter at the time. I asked the first if they carried the HeartCheck PEN. She asked me to repeat the name of the product, said she hadn’t heard of it, and then asked the other pharmacist if he had heard of the PEN. He hadn’t either. I explained to him what the product did, and told him that it was supposed to be currently available at Shoppers Drug Mart locations.

He then took me over to the section of the pharmacy where other self-monitoring/health-related devices were, so that he could show me where he thought it would be located “if they carried it”. Just as he was in the process of telling me that I was mistaken, and that it must be available at another pharmacy chain, I spotted and pointed out to him the one HeartCheck unit they had on-shelf, with a $259 price point. He was surprised to find it there, and I confirmed again that he had no idea that it was even in-store before I asked about it, or what it was used for.

He checked his computer terminal, and found out that they had received one unit the week before from their distribution centre, unbeknownst to him.

I went back a little while later to pick up my prescription, at which point the pharmacist gave me his card and email address, so that he could be sent some more information about the PEN (once I told him about CardioComm Solutions and why I’d been asking in the first place). I’m sure he would appreciate any information that you could send to him, as he seemed genuinely curious to know more about the product:

HeartCheck ECG PEN Customer Testimonial

"It is hard to believe that I have had the device since 2013.....

I use the Heart Check Pen because my doctor wants to be sure that I let him know if I go back in to AFib. Since I have never detected AFib on my own (no specific feeling or physical discomfort) I rely on my tests to tell me if there is a problem.

I would be delighted to test any new Bluetooth device that you come up with. I appreciate your remembering me.

Screen for AF not just for potential stroke risk but perhaps for heart attach risk.

Approximately two-thirds of MI’s (Heart Attacks) in the U.S. each year are non-STEMI. In addition, an estimated 2.7 million to 6.1 million people in the U.S. have atrial fibrillation, which is a risk factor for stroke.

In a community-based population study, researchers examined 15,792 adults between 1987 and 2013. The final analysis included 14,462 patients. The mean age was 54 years, 56 percent of patients were women and 26 percent were African American.

Of the patients, 31 had atrial fibrillation at baseline and 1,514 had atrial fibrillation during the follow-up period before having MI.

The researchers found atrial fibrillation was associated with a 63 percent increased risk of MI. There was a significantly higher rate of MI in women with atrial fibrillation compared with men

After a median follow-up of more than 20 years, researchers found an increased risk of non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (non-STEMI) in patients with atrial fibrillation even when adjusting for cardiovascular and other risk factors. However, there was no association between atrial fibrillation…

A case for personal use of the HeartCheck ECG PEN:

Intermittent screening detects 33% more cases of atrial fibrillation

A screening program in Sweden using hand held ECGs for intermittent electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings detected previously unknown atrial fibrillation in 3 percent of the 75- and 76-year-old participants, most of whom then initiated treatments.

Participants were Swedish residents who were either 75 or 76 years old. The screening detected new atrial fibrillation cases in 3 percent of the participants.

The research team pointed out that atrial fibrillation was rarely detected in the first ECG reading (0.5 percent) and that intermittent ECG screening increased the prevalence of [atrial fibrillation] in the screened population by 33% which gave physicians the opportunity to diagnose and treat some cases of paroxysmal (not permanent) atrial fibrillation, before it possibly developed into permanent atrial fibrillation.

The research also states that they may have underestimated the prevalence of atrial fibrillation in this population due to the limited two-week duration of screening.
