We’re choosing our next book—and you’re invited to help!

The Turning Tides CPTSD Book Club brings people together to read, learn, and talk about trauma and healing, with connection, support, and a little accountability along the way.

We take the reading slowly, in manageable sections. Bring your questions, reflections, and ideas—you don’t need to have everything figured out or share your personal story.

Our next read could be:

• Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors — Janina Fisher
• Fawning — Dr. Ingrid Clayton
• To Be Loved — Frank G. Anderson
• Somatic Internal Family Systems — Susan McConnell
• Unlearning Shame — Devon Price, PhD
• Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents — Lindsay C. Gibson

Which would you choose?

Join our free book club chat to share your preference, suggest another book, and receive meeting updates. DM me “BOOK CLUB” and I’ll send you the sign-up link. Or see the link in my bio.

Meetings are online and $10 CAD each, booked separately. You can join at any point—just complete the latest assigned reading before attending so you can contribute to the conversation.

Know someone who might enjoy this? Please share it with them.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott
A reminder for going into a new week: rest is part of how the nervous system stays well. Not a reward you earn at the end of the week. If you can find one quiet pocket of time to unplug, it counts.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.” — Viktor Frankl
One of the most useful ideas in therapy is the pause — not as a way to control anything, but as a way to come back to ourselves before responding. Connection grows when we choose, instead of react.

“There are years that ask questions and years that answer.” — Zora Neale Hurston
For anyone navigating identity, family, and chosen family — both kinds of years are sacred. Being seen as you are, without having to translate, is one of the quiet gifts of good therapy. We honour the long, non-linear shape of your story.

“Healing is not linear.” — anonymous
PTSD Awareness Day. A quiet acknowledgement of everyone whose story includes trauma — and of the slow, non-linear work of healing.

“What you seek is seeking you.” — Rumi
Personal growth doesn’t always look like big changes. Sometimes it’s quiet — one small thing today that aligns with your values, and trusting the rest. Coaching is one way to stay close to that work, in the spaces between bigger shifts.

“You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you.” — Dan Millman
A gentle Sunday practice for going into a new week: name three things you’re hoping for, and three things you’re letting go of. Not as a to-do list. As a way of landing softly into Monday.

“Understanding is love’s other name.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
One of the quiet truths in relationships work: the most loving thing we can do is keep trying to understand. Not to fix, not to agree, just to understand. Connection deepens in the space where we listen.

“You are the medicine you’ve been looking for.” — Maya Angelou
Therapy where the basics are already understood — 2SLGBTQ+ identity, chosen family, non-traditional relationships — means more room for the actual work. For anyone waiting for a counsellor who already knows the context, the free 20-minute consultation is there for that.
