A little Thanksgiving weekend update… and a few exciting things I’m finally ready to share! 🍂❤️

I’m incredibly grateful (and a little nervous!) to share that I’ve been selected as a TEDxSurrey speaker! 🎤tickets will be available for January 23 2027 TEDxSurrey

I’m also working on something very close to my heart: a book in the making called The Semicircle: What It Takes to Be Well in a World That Asks Too Much.

Will it become a published book? Hopefully but, I’m embracing the process, the creativity, and the uncertainty for now .

And yes, Beyond Wellness 2027 is taking shape, too! Save the date for April 4 2027

So much for taking a sabbatical to rest! 😂

But perhaps I’m learning that rest isn’t always about doing nothing. Sometimes it’s about having the freedom to create, to follow what brings us joy, and to do things on our own terms. And yes, to stop when we’re tired.

As we head into Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for this incredible community, for the connections we’ve created, and for the opportunity to keep learning, growing, and keep going even with all the ebbs and flows of life.

Thank you for being part of this journey. ❤️

Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁

The What if we don’t need to find ourselves—but simply become still enough to remember who we are?

That may be my biggest takeaway from this silent meditation retreat.

With enough stillness, simplicity and solitude, we begin to find our way back to ourselves.

But we will forget again. We’ll return to the noise, the responsibilities and the constant doing. Maybe the practice isn’t to never forget—it’s to notice when we have, and gently find our way back.

That is what I want to bring home with me.

More pause and transition between the different parts of my day. More kindness toward myself when I forget. And a daily meditation practice—not as another thing to accomplish, but as a place to ground, reconnect and remember.

To remember that love is within us, and that we are deeply connected to one another.

Deeply grateful to Mark Sherman for guiding us through this experience, to Chetna Boyd .yoga.lotus.yoga for grounding and reconnecting us to our bodies through therapeutic yoga each morning, to the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga and to this incredible circle of physicians and participants who held such beautiful space for one another.

And if this speaks to something you’ve been needing, Mark and Chetna are offering this silent meditation retreat again at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga this November (see Mark Sherman link in bio)

The silence may be over, but the practice of remembering continues. 🤍

Free hormone therapy is amazing progress. But it is not the same as accessible peri/postmenopause care.

As a family physician who was part of the negotiations for B.C.’s new payment model, I can tell you that perimenopause/menopause care and mental-health assessment are still not recognized as complex care.

In plain language, when family doctors spend the additional time required to listen, assess, counsel and follow their patients, the complexity of that work is not acknowledged. We are effectively financially penalized for taking the time our patients need.

There is little incentive for more family physicians to develop expertise and provide this care within an already strained primary-care system.

We also lack a clear, dedicated perimenopause code that is consistently captured in our healthcare data. A woman’s visit may be recorded as anxiety, insomnia, depression or abnormal bleeding—while the larger pattern disappears.

If we cannot code it, we cannot count it.

And if we cannot count it, how can we plan, fund or improve it?

Payment models and diagnostic codes are not laws of nature. We created them, and we can change them.

If you feel comfortable, tell us:

Were your symptoms recognized?
Did you feel heard?
Did you have to pay privately—or go without care?

Your story is not a complaint. It is evidence.

I explore the full issue—and what needs to change—in my new Substack article:

“Free Hormone Therapy Is Not the Same as Menopause Care.”

Read it through the link in my bio—and please share this reel and article widely, especially with your MLA and healthcare leaders.

The more people who understand the gap, the harder it becomes to ignore.

Still glowing from an unforgettable evening at Glowing Beyond - Celebrating Women 40 Over 40

To stand beside my mother, the women who shaped me, and my daughter Sophie, who represents the generation coming after me, was deeply meaningful.

Thank you Denise Lin, for your vision and for creating a space that honours women, their stories, their strength, and their impact. You reminded us that when one woman creates space, so many others are invited to step forward and be seen.

Women’s health deserves to be seen.
Women’s voices deserve to be heard.
And women deserve systems that care for them as deeply as they have always cared for everyone else.

For the women who came before us.
For the women standing beside us.
And for the women who will come after us. ❤️

Thank you BC Women’s Health Foundation for everything that you do to support women’s health in BC and beyond

Perimenopause and menopause shouldn’t feel like something we have to figure out alone. ❤️

There is SO much information coming at us—protein, strength training, hormones, supplements, sleep, stress—and sometimes even more confusion about what actually applies to you.

But what concerns me most is access.

Good women’s health care, credible information and meaningful support shouldn’t be available only to those who can afford it.

We need more equity in women’s health.

And we need more C.A.R.E.—care for our minds, our changing bodies, and the parts of ourselves that can sometimes get lost during this transition.

At Zili CARE, we want to listen before we build.

Where are you in your journey? What are you struggling with? What support do you wish you had?

Tell us in the comments or send us a DM. ❤️

Because women deserve accessible, equitable support—and they deserve to feel cared for through every stage of life.

That’s C.A.R.E. ❤️
Love DrZ

“Don’t meditate to fix yourself. Meditate to meet yourself.”

I leave this silent meditation retreat facilitated by our health champion at with a heart full of gratitude.

For the stillness.
For the wisdom of Dr. Mark Sherman.
For the moments of discomfort that became insight.
For the reminders that silence is not empty; it is full of what we have been too busy to hear.

One of the favourite quotes from Ram Dass shared:

“We’re all just walking each other home.”

This week reminded me that home is not a destination. It is the place within ourselves that we return to when we slow down enough to listen.

In silence, surrounded by nature and community, we walked one another home—back to presence, back to truth, back to our hearts.

Immense gratitude to everyone who shared this journey on Cortes Island.

Leaving this week with a full heart and a quieter mind. What a gift it is to simply pause and listen. ❤️DrZ

Some evenings end when the lights go down.

This one didn’t.

Beyond Wellness brought together more than 440 people around a shared vision of health rooted in authenticity, belonging, and care.

What emerged from the evening was a clear message: people are looking for more than information. They are looking for connection, community, humanity, and hope.

This impact report captures not only what happened on April 21, but where this movement is headed next: more conversations, more community gatherings, more interdisciplinary collaboration, and a continued commitment to creating meaningful change in the way we think about health, healing, and healthcare itself.

Beyond Wellness exists to challenge fragmented models of wellbeing and help build more compassionate, human-centered systems of care.

To everyone who showed up with openness and courage, thank you.

We are only just beginning.

Nikki Baxendale brought something truly special to Beyond Wellness on April 21.

Through her collaborative artwork, she invited every participant to become part of a collective creation, a visual reflection of connection, presence, and shared humanity. Watching the canvas evolve throughout the evening was a beautiful reminder that meaningful change is rarely created alone. It is built one contribution, one conversation, and one act of participation at a time.

Nikki’s generosity, creativity, and unwavering support helped transform the experience into something even more memorable. Her work not only inspired our guests to express themselves, but also created a lasting piece that carries the energy of everyone who gathered that evening.

We are deeply grateful for Nikki’s contribution to Beyond Wellness and for using her art as a bridge between people, purpose, and community.

Thank you, , for reminding us that when individual stories come together, they create something far greater than any one of us could create alone.
