πŸ”Ή Cardio-obstetrics and cardiovascular care through pregnancy and menopause
πŸ”Ή Vascular conditions more common in women, including fibromuscular dysplasia

Fellows also lead journal club and case rounds, complete a mentored research project in women's heart health, and work with a multidisciplinary team spanning cardiology, obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, and vascular medicine.

On , DCI reaffirms its commitment to learning from past and ongoing inequalities and to reconciliation through action: advancing cultural safety, deepening awareness, and improving access to inclusive care for all.

Led by Dr. Miles Marchand, DCI's Centre for Indigenous Cardiovascular Health is rooted in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the In Plain Sight report, and advocates for culturally safe, community-led models of care that address longstanding inequities in heart health.

Today, we reflect on the progress that has been made, and the work that remains in building a more equitable health care system.

On , πŸ«€our world-leading cardiovascular team at VGH is celebrating three groundbreaking milestones.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jason Andrade, 's Centre for Heart Rhythm Interventions is setting a new standard for cardiac care:

- First in North America to employ advanced second-generation PFA solutions
- First in Canada to perform a pulse field ablation (PFA) procedure
- First in Canada to perform dual-energy PF and RF ablation

For patients with atrial fibrillation, this means fewer complications, shorter waitlists, and improved access to care.

These advancements are made possible by the incredible generosity of donors to VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.

After full weekend of exhilarating sessions, VanSCAD 2026 just wrapped up its 8th annual conference in Vancouver, BC πŸŽ‰

VanSCAD brought together SCAD and NOCAD experts from around the world for three days of in-person and virtual sessions, September 18–20. This year's program expanded beyond its established SCAD focus to include a major theme on Non-Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease (NOCAD), covering both MINOCA (Myocardial Infarction with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries) and INOCA (Ischemia with Non-Obstructive Coronary Arteries).

Led by Course Director Dr. Jacqueline Saw and Course Co-Director Dr. Tara Sedlak, the conference delivered a contemporary update on SCAD and MINOCA/INOCA to an audience spanning cardiologists, internists, GPs, nurses, residents and fellows, students, and patients.

VanSCAD is run through the VGH SCAD Program, part of DCI's Centre for Women's Heart Health Research β€” and this year's turnout reflects the program's continued growth as a hub for SCAD and NOCAD education.

Thank you to the faculty, attendees, and organizing team who made VanSCAD 2026 possible. See you in 2027! πŸ—“οΈ

Cardiac rehabilitation, i.e. structured exercise, education, and monitoring after a heart event, is proven to reduce the risk of a second cardiac event. But for many Indigenous patients, accessing rehab means travelling to a facility in a city that may be hours away, in a system that may not feel safe or culturally appropriate.

DCI's Dr. Miles Marchand, working in partnership with the Musqueam Nation, developed Strong Hearts: the first on-reserve cardiac rehabilitation program in Canada.

The program brings cardiac testing, supervised exercise, specialist consultations, and heart health education directly into the Musqueam community.
