Have you ever wondered why something happening today can bring up such strong emotions, even when you know you're not in the same situation you were in years ago?
Perhaps you suddenly feel anxious, frightened, hurt, or overwhelmed, and you can't quite understand why.
Sometimes, those feelings may be connected to experiences from our past that were simply too overwhelming to process at the time.
We may have learned to disconnect from those feelings to protect ourselves.
But what happens when those emotions begin showing up again in our everyday lives?
One of the things I explore in Video 5 of my PTSD Recovery Series is how the present moment can offer us an opportunity to begin relating differently to these unresolved experiences.
Through gentle mindfulness, we can practise noticing our breathing, reconnecting with body sensations, and gradually learning to accept what we're feeling rather than automatically pushing it away.
We don't need to force ourselves to relive trauma. Developing inner safety, patience, and self-compassion comes first.
Have you ever noticed an emotional reaction that seemed stronger than the situation itself?
