One of our favourite things about myofunctional therapy is seeing the moment a client starts to connect the dots.

Maybe they've struggled with:
• snoring
• mouth breathing
• poor sleep
• jaw tension
• tongue posture
• swallowing

And suddenly they begin to understand how these things can be connected.
This happens with both our adult and pediatric clients.

Every person comes to us with a different history, different habits, and different goals.

That's why we look at the whole picture and provide specifically tailored 1:1 therapy programs with every client we work with!

Are You a Mouth Breather? 👄

Mouth breathing isn't just something that happens with children.

Adults can develop habitual mouth breathing too — sometimes without even realizing it.

Things you may notice:
• waking with a dry mouth
• chapped lips
• nasal congestion
• snoring
• restless sleep
• daytime fatigue
• difficulty keeping your lips comfortably closed
• feeling like you can't get enough air through your nose

Mouth breathing can have many different causes, so it's important to understand why it's happening rather than simply trying to force yourself to breathe through your nose.

Your breathing habits matter at every age.

Do you wake up with a sore jaw?

Maybe you clench your teeth during the day or notice tension in your face, temples, or neck.

Your jaw doesn't work in isolation.

The tongue, lips, cheeks, jaw muscles, breathing patterns, and swallowing function all work together.

For some people, inefficient oral muscle patterns can contribute to increased tension and compensation.

That's why myofunctional therapy looks beyond the symptom and considers how everything is functioning together.

If your jaw is constantly telling you something isn't right, it may be worth listening.

Healthy Habits for a Successful Fall

As September comes to an end, it's a great time to check in with your family's routines.

Ask yourself:
✔️ How is everyone sleeping?
✔️ Does everyone wake feeling refreshed and ready for the day?
✔️ What breathing patterns do you notice throughout the day/night?
✔️ Are the household daily habits supporting long-term healthy goals?

Small, consistent changes often have the biggest impact over time.

Here's to a healthy, happy fall season.

In the Clinic 🩺

Today we celebrated a young client who reached one of their biggest milestones...
Keeping their lips comfortably closed at rest without needing reminders!

These small wins may seem simple, but they often represent months of consistency and practice.

Watching our clients gain confidence while building healthier lifelong habits is incredibly rewarding.

Progress isn't always measured by giant leaps.

Sometimes it's the little victories that matter most.

Did You Know?

Your tongue should spend most of the day resting gently on the roof of your mouth.

Proper tongue posture helps support:
• nasal breathing
• swallowing
• stabilization
• jaw development
• facial muscle balance

This applies to both children and adults.

Sometimes the smallest muscles make the biggest difference.

Nothing means more to us than hearing how myo has made a difference for a family.

Here's what one mom recently shared after her 6-year-old completed our Mini Myo program:

"The changes we have seen in our little guy made the investment in time and cost SO worth it! His sleep apnea is gone, mouth breathing is gone, stomach gassiness is gone, his sleep quality has greatly improved, and he even had a growth spurt! The list almost feels endless!"
— Parker G.'s Mom

She also shared how much she appreciated that the program was engaging for her son, flexible for their busy family, and easy to complete virtually.

Stories like this remind us why we love helping families build healthier habits that can last a lifetime.

If we've had the privilege of working with you or your family, we'd be so grateful if you would consider leaving us a Google review. Your experience may help another family take that first step toward finding answers.

Is Mouth Breathing Affecting Learning?

Children who consistently breathe through their mouths may also experience:
• more cavities
• dry mouth
• restless sleep
• daytime fatigue
• difficulty concentrating
• frequent congestion

While mouth breathing isn't always the cause of these concerns, it can be an important piece of the puzzle.

Helping children establish healthier breathing habits may positively support learning, behaviour, and overall well-being.

Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.
