“But nobody ever told me that we could, either.”

When Dave Redl discovered a lump in his chest, breast cancer wasn’t something he thought he needed to worry about. He didn’t know men could develop it, too.

He initially thought the lump was related to his physically demanding work as a truck driver. But when it grew, he decided to see his doctor.

In 2026, Dave was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer.

Now, Dave is sharing his story in the hope that other men will know breast cancer can affect them, too and that unusual changes shouldn't be ignored.

Read his story in his own words: https://www.cancercare.mb.ca/About-Us/communications-and-public-affairs

This , we're grateful to Dave for sharing his experience and helping raise awareness.

Starting cancer treatment can mean more than appointments and medications. For some breast cancer patients, it also means regular heart monitoring, sometimes requiring a trip to the hospital just for an ECG.

What if that part of care could happen at home?
We are working with CardioComm Solutions Inc. to explore this possibility through a pilot project that allows participating patients to record their heart rhythm at home using a small handheld ECG device. The recordings are submitted through the MyCare patient app (Noona) for review by the care team.

The pilot will help us understand whether at-home monitoring is a practical way to reduce the need for hospital visits solely for an ECG, while continuing to support patients throughout their treatment.

The renovations at CancerCare Manitoba’s Grace Hospital site are complete, and we’re looking forward to welcoming patients back to our refreshed space.

Starting November 9, 2026, clinic visits and cancer treatments will return to our Grace Hospital site.

If you would like to receive your treatment at Grace Hospital, talk to your care team. You can also ask about seeing a Family Physician in Oncology at Grace.

Please note that changes to your clinic location depend on appointment times and doctor availability, so a change cannot be guaranteed.

We look forward to welcoming patients back and continuing to provide cancer care closer to home.

Think you need a screening mammogram because you’ve noticed a lump? Not quite.

Breast cancer screening is for people who don’t have signs or symptoms. It helps find breast cancer before you notice any changes.

If you’ve noticed a new lump, changes in your breast, or have symptoms you’re concerned about, don’t wait for a screening mammogram. Talk to your healthcare provider.

And if you have a family history of breast cancer or an inherited genetic risk, your screening plan may look different.

Screening and diagnostic mammograms have different purposes, but both play an important role in breast health.

This National Mammography Day, know the difference. 💗

Starting October 19, Grandview Health Centre will temporarily provide cancer treatments for eligible patients in the Dauphin area.

Patients will transition in stages, based on their care needs. Your care team will contact you directly when it’s time to move. Until your transition is confirmed, continue attending your current appointments as scheduled.

The colon cancer screening test is a simple p**p test you can do at home. It can find signs of blood in your stool that may be caused by colon cancer, even before you notice any symptoms.

In Manitoba, if you’re 50 to 74, you can get screened every two years.

No symptoms? That’s exactly why screening matters.

Meet the experts behind the scenes of Nuclear Medicine at CancerCare Manitoba.

While you may never meet a nuclear medicine physicist, their work plays an important role in patient care every day.

From helping ensure imaging equipment and treatments are accurate and safe, to supporting the introduction of new technologies and therapies, they help provide healthcare teams with the information they need to make informed decisions for patients.

This Nuclear Medicine Week, we're recognizing our nuclear medicine physicists, Jonathan and Sajjad, and the work they do behind the scenes to support cancer care in Manitoba.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

At CancerCare Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, we remember the children who never returned home, honour residential school survivors, and hold space for families and communities whose lives continue to be shaped by this history.

Reconciliation begins with listening. With learning. With remembering. And with being willing to take meaningful action. It’s an ongoing journey.

We honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. We remain committed to learning, building relationships, and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation not just today, but every day. 🧡
