We are becoming remarkably good at measuring patients, yet remain surprisingly poor at describing the therapy they receive. BCI, wearables, rehabilitation robotics and AI can now capture movement, attention, effort and motor intention. But can we precisely explain what intervention was delivered, at what dose, under which conditions, and with what outcome? Without this, AI cannot reliably learn which treatment works for whom, when and why. The next breakthrough may be a shared language for rehabilitation interventions—allowing intelligence to move beyond individual machines towards genuinely adaptive, personalised care.

In my latest ZenSightful Bytes article, I explore why the future of rehabilitation AI may depend less on how well we measure patients and more on how precisely we understand what we do to help them recover. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/before-rehabilitation-can-learn-must-what-actually-did-zen-koh-a3dmc/

Hello Robot’s recent NIH award is an encouraging step towards bringing Physical AI into real-world ageing and dementia care. But it also raises a more fundamental question: Can robots genuinely improve independence without taking away the abilities people still have? The future of care robotics will be knowing when to assist, when to encourage independence, and when to involve a human caregiver. Saving task time is not the same as reducing caregiving responsibility. In my latest ZenSightful Bytes article, I explore why the next competitive advantage in Physical AI may come from accountable assistance, measurable outcomes and sustainable care delivery, rather than robotic capability alone. The real breakthrough will be robots that understand not only what they can do, but what they should do.

AI can help us deliver more therapy, measure movement and personalise assistance. But more movement does not necessarily mean better recovery. In my latest ZenSightful Bytes, I explore why rehabilitation robotics could become one of the most important proving grounds for responsible Physical AI—and why the future lies in sensing, assisting, verifying real-world function and preserving patient agency. The goal is not to replace therapists or maximise robotic autonomy. It is to help people regain meaningful independence. The real measure of progress is what patients can do beyond the robot. https://zenkoh.substack.com/p/rehabilitation-robotics-is-where

The global rehabilitation robotics market is approaching US$600 million in 2026, with forecasts pointing towards substantial growth. But market size alone tells only part of the story. North America leads in revenue, Asia-Pacific offers strong growth potential, and new opportunities are emerging in outpatient and home-based rehabilitation. In my latest ZenSightful Bytes, I explore the market dynamics, regional opportunities and business models shaping the industry through 2035.

Nearly 42 billion hours of biometric data from one wearable platform. Yet a 2026 study found that continuous monitoring generated 74 alerts per patient per day, reduced to just five through clinical filtering. More data does not automatically mean better healthcare. The real opportunity lies in connecting:

Measurement → Interpretation → Decision → Intervention → Verification → Payment

My latest ZenSightful Bytes article, “The Future of Wearables Begins Where Measurement Ends,” explores why trusted, actionable intelligence may matter more than the devices themselves. “The scarce asset is not the body's data. It is the authority to turn knowledge of the body into an accountable consequence.” What will be the biggest bottleneck: technology, clinical evidence, reimbursement or accountability?
